OBAMA:
Being out of alignment with my values.

FALSANI:
Do you believe in heaven?
OBAMA:
Do I believe in the harps and clouds and wings?
FALSANI:
A place spiritually you go to after you die?
OBAMA:
What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded.
Hmmmm

FALSANI
Do you still attend Trinity?
OBAMA:
Yep. Every week. 11 oclock service.
---------------------------------
FALSANI:
Who's Jesus to you?
(He laughs nervously)
OBAMA:
Right.
Jesus is an historical figure for me, and he's also a bridge between God and man, in the Christian faith, and one that I think is powerful precisely because he serves as that means of us reaching something higher.
---------------------------------
FALSANI:
Where do you find spiritual inspiration? Music, nature, literature, people, a conduit you plug into?
OBAMA:
There are so many.
Nothing is more powerful than the black church experience. A good choir and a good sermon in the black church, it's pretty hard not to be move and be transported.

"Allah" is the word for "God" in Arabic, used as such also by Christian Arabs. In Maltese, which is derived from medieval Arabic, the word for God is "Alla."
OBAMA:
What I believe in is that if I live my life as well as I can, that I will be rewarded.
