The fetishization of the Apocalypse continues.

3000 years and still going strong.

Reminds me of an earlier conversation I had on this topic:
With such a clear lesson before us in the Gospel, how is it possible to mischaracterize so many good, godly people as “glorifying Satan” simply because they believe the prophetic teaching of Jesus, that there will be a great darkness that comes before the dawn?
Actually, the prophetic teachings of Jesus were addressed to those who were listening to him, who would actually live to see his warnings come to pass. For us to embrace as a promise to us the curses Jesus pronounced against that generation of apostate Israel is a real buzz-kill! Since our Lord spoke truly and prophetically, His Words came to pass within the time period He assigned to them. The generation He spoke of was the generation He spoke to -- and to claim otherwise is to violate normal Greek grammar, as it applies every where else in the NT. As one who believes in the literal interpretation of Rev. 1:1-3, I think "soon" means "soon," "quickly" means "quickly," "at hand" means "at hand." Apart from the future resurrection of the body that all orthodox Christians look forward to, the New Testament contains a body of FULFILLED prophecies. Things that were in the future of those who heard Jesus and the apostles, but that are in our past.
Jesus gave us these words, not to make us long for evil (and no one I know does), but to enable us to endure the evil when it will most certainly come, as nothing but a small sorrow that necessarily precedes a transition to the direct and open rule of Jesus on Earth.
But ... but ... but ... the earliest two-word creed of the early church asserted that Jesus enjoys direct and open rule on earth right now, today, from the Father's right hand. Or don't you believe that "Jesus is Lord?" He rules the earth in a manner analogous to the way He rules our lives and souls -- by His Word. As we embrace and obey it, we are blessed. People and nations who defy it, are cursed. God has set up feedback loops within history that, over generations, redound to His glory.

How does Jesus rule your life today, my dear friend? (and I do appreciate the tone of your comments) Do you see Him visibly before you 24/7, telling you when to pee, when to eat, what to wear, when to make love to your wife? When you are rejoicing in the holy marital bed, is Jesus sitting in the armchair in your bedroom grinning at you and your spouse's marital arts? Or does His rule over us require us to walk by faith, and not by sight? And to thereby grow, over time, in maturity and grace?

Why should He not rule nations the same way? With the Sword that comes out of His mouth, His Word, applied in faith by fathers, pastors, jurors, and magistrates?

Whereas those who have been led to believe everything will just start getting better and better through human efforts will be like those doubting disciples of Jesus, shivering in fear and disappointment when the darkness rises, however temporarily, because they will think the dream is really dead, when it is not.
Actually, it is our job to proclaim and obey God's Word. It is His job to confirm His word, at times "with signs following." Each of us, applying our best efforts to our varied vocations, makes the world a better place. Else, why bother going to work? The godly man's family is one of his most powerful tools for advancing the Kingdom. As we have and home-school our kids, we equip them to brighten the corners where God puts them. As we open up our dinner tables to unbelieving friends, the caliber of our family life displays the gospel in action, and awakens in the elect a yearning to have a piece of that action.
One more thing: It is horrendous to me the way Christians can scratch at each other here.
Still, bad doctrine is a harsh taskmaster. If I saw someone exhorting the Christian parents of diabetic children to throw away their insulin, I'd cry the alarm. When I see people exhorting Christians to throw away the future God wants them to believe, work, and hope for, I cry the alarm. Those who practice prognostication promote a fatalistic attitude towards God's plan for our lives, and undercut the morale, and morality, of God's people. They are doing a wicked work, they are doing harm to God's dear children, they should be reproved.

Still, you are right, I should try to find kinder ways to reprove!

In english: No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.

The rabbis were wrong 2,000 years ago, and missed the biggest event in all of human history. Why should we take them seriously today?

I hear you. However, I’m putting it in the prespective of scripture. I infer from it that they will be right eventually.

I disagree with the belief that prophesy was fulfilled at the time shortly after Jesus death and resurrection. I think of the “generation” stuff, the 70th week of Daniel, Israel becoming a nation, the fact that things during the Tribulation will be worse than at any time in human history, stuff like that, to cause me to look for the events that take place before John, in chapter 7 of Revelation, sees a number of people too numerous to count.

I've run across Perry Stone twice. Once, he was pushing a personal "communion at home" kit. The other time, watching a video of his, he gave an interpretation of Ezekiel's vally of dry bones prophecy that was literally jaw dropping in its absurdity.

In other words, a typical modern pop dispensational prophecy hack.

Please consider subscribing to Pastor John Hagee’s daily message RSS feed:

Oh, yes. Do you agree with "Pastor" Haggee that some folks don't need Jesus to be saved? For some folks, according to "Pastor" Haggee, self-righteousness and good genetics is enough to get you into heaven, and Jesus is superfluous, redundant, and unnecessary.

In other words, a typical modern pop dispensational prophecy hack.

In the low-budget Australian mock epic The Return of Captain Invincible, the title character played by Alan Arkin sings the mournful dirge:

Now who's wearing black hats, and who's wearing white
And who's on the side of goodness and right
The line is so close between heaven and hell
Not even a hero can tell
The good guys from the bad guys.
I'm working on a dissertation that examines the signature works of two men who redefined reality for tens of millions of people. One was a fifth century African Christian, the other, a 20th century secular Muslim. One thing these two guys had in common -- they could tell "the good guys from the bad guys." They were perfectly clear on who was wearing the black hats, representing the forces of evil, and working against the interests of humanity.

I think we need to start being more forthright -- check our britches, make sure they're still there, then call evil by its name.

Fortune-tellers are evil-doers, unpaid cheerleaders in Satan's service, enemies of God's Kingdom, willing underminers of God's people. They may love God and lead exemplary lives -- but their eagerness to hand the world, which God so loved, over to the forces of evil is, in itself, an evil act.

I think God's patience is running low. To avert His wrath, we need to purge this evil custom ("prophecy teaching") from our midst. One of the key verses of my life is Deut. 28:47, 48:

47 Because thou servedst not the LORD thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of all things; 48 Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.
We have resources at our disposal calibrated to the subduing of nations, and the dethroning of kings. We have recourse to the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and the Throneroom of God. We have millions of unbelievers showing up at our doorstep from around the world, eager to learn American culture and make American friends. We have the atonement of the eternal Son of God going for us, and a God who makes all things work together for our good and His glory.

And these foul blasphemers of God's goodness just want to sit around and whine about how bad everything is, and is going to get. God just may give them what they want -- but I pray not. I began my walk with God 40 years ago -- and perhaps, in His mercy, this has been enough time for most of the doomsayers and fortune teller to die out. I hope so. God has better things in mind for His people than these impugners of His glory would have us believe.

I don’t ascribe to that philosophy and I don’t think Hagee or Perry Stone do, either. You may not agree, but I have not heard them espouse such beliefs.

I didn’t put this thread up to argue but to encourage. I do enough complaining as it is here.

Haggee's support for the a certain Christ-hating socialist middle eastern nation precludes evangelizing them. He asserts that they don't need Jesus, but are kosher in terms of the Old Covenant.

Until folks embrace the Jewish Prince of Peace, they will not know peace.

I know one, also, although not a pastor and his teachings are awesome - with the ability to speak/know Hebrew and knowledge of the OT and their customs. Definitely a great asset to the Body of Christ.

Great church!!

Cary, no less! I had tentative plans on moving there. Someone I knew moved there and totally sold me on the area.

Your pastor co-authored books w/D. James Kennedy and Reinhardt Bonke!! Both powerful men in the Body of Christ. Kennedy was taken way too soon - we need a voice to ‘speak the truth no matter what’ now more than ever.

Thanks for sharing.
