Gay clergy debate: Lutherans bowed but not broken
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | 8/25/10 | JIM SPENCER, Star Tribune

A year ago, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Minnesota's largest Protestant faith, held a close and controversial vote that opened its doors to non-celibate gay clergy. Disappointed opponents predicted a fracture that would cause 1,000 congregations to withdraw.

A year later, the ELCA remains largely intact.

"That 1,000-congregation figure has proven to be wishful thinking on the part of those who wanted it to happen," said Larry Wohlrabe, Bishop of Minnesota's rural Northwestern Synod. "Our culture has changed on this."

. . .
Meanwhile, plans for the new alternative North American Lutheran Church (NALC) will form this week at a gathering in Ohio. The new church will prohibit sexually active gay clergy. While fewer than 10 congregations have committed to joining NALC, organizers say hundreds eventually will.

I guess they can cancel the new NALC, the Star Tribune has already decided that it's a waste of time.

Those congregations that do NOT “come out from among them” will have “ICHABOD” written over their doors by God the Holy Spirit Himself. It will take time, but I am praying that the “true Church” will find their way out of the Institution that calls itself “the church,” so that the Body of Christ may be built and established in the power of His Word and His Spirit. Leave the dead trappings to the skeletons of the institutional church. Be the Body of Christ, vibrant, obedient, and alive! Praying for the TRUE CHURCH still within the ELCA.

The ECLA is pro-abortion, and has been for years. If a preacher is going to get up and tell the congregation it’s just fine to kill babies, does it really matter what he goes home and does with his “partner”?

This past Sunday the local Lutheran church in my town voted to leave. They first voted last spring and fell far short - there was no second vote 90 days later. However on their second go around yes. Close to 100% of those voting did so to break away. Also a church about 21 miles west of here left the ECLA a year or so ago.

Gay bathhouse Saturday night, preaching in the robes on Sunday morning.

As if that is God’s will. The mind boggles.

I quickly scanned the Star Trib's agitprop article looking for even a single name of one of those "disappointed opponents." Surely the Strib would love to embarrass one (preferably more than one) of those opponents by naming him/her/them.

For some reason, I can't find a single name.

“Our culture has changed on this.”

There, that settles the matter! Now we’ll wait for God’s Word to catch up.

it seems that acceptance of abortion and divorce is the slippery slope towards what is happening in the ELCA, ecusa and pcusa.
