Chiara "Luce" Badano

Rome, Italy, Sep 23, 2010 / 11:02 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Chiara "Luce" Badano, who showed great faith during her short life, will be beatified this weekend. Her parents and thousands of young people from Italy and across the globe are expected in Rome to celebrate her life and holiness.

Chiara was born in the town of Sassello, Italy in 1971. Brought up Catholic, she later became a member of the Focolare movement and, although stricken by bone cancer which paralyzed her legs and later took her life, lived the Gospel message, exuding a love for God and life throughout.

She is remembered for her repeated prayer amidst the trials: "If you will it, Jesus, so do I."

The beatification rite will be celebrated by Archbishop Angelo Amato, prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints, at Rome's Sanctuary of Divine Love. Thousands of pilgrims are expected to join in the celebration, many being members of the Focolare movement who are now arriving from as far away as Hong Kong.

The president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, Cardinal Ennio Antonelli will concelebrate along with bishops from several countries and over 100 priests. Her parents and her bishop, who first provided the impetus for her cause for canonization, will also be present for the ceremony.

Later on that evening, a celebration will be held in the Vatican's Paul VI Hall, where the Pope often hosts his Wednesday general audiences, during which three elements of Chiara's time on earth will be highlighted: Life, Love and Light.

EWTN will provide broadcasting from this location.

On the next morning, Sept. 26, Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone will preside over Mass at St. Paul's Outside-the-walls in thanksgiving for the beatification. At the conclusion of the Mass, the participants will await a live telecast from Castel Gandolfo of the Angelus, during which they expect the Pope to recognize the newly declared blessed.

One more wrongheaded focus on another human. The Catholic Church apparently needs “saints” in order to lower the bar. Paul seems to see it differently...

“There is none righteous, not even one. There is none who understands. There is none who seeks for God. All have turned aside, together they have become useless. There is none who does good. There not even one.” Rom. 3

Until this message of Paul’s permeates the broken minds of the RCC, the self-righteousness of their false gospel will continue to lead the sheeple over the cliff. They will make men twice the citizens of Hell that they are.

What is the Focolare movement? The article says she was raised Catholic but later joined Focolare, which implies that it is a different religion. Is she wasn’t a Catholic, how can she be beatified? Or is Focolare just some kind of club?

Would that all Christians so thoroughly turn our lives over to God's Holy Will.

Matthew 26:
36Then Jesus came with them into a country place which is called Gethsemani; and he said to his disciples: Sit you here, till I go yonder and pray. 37And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to grow sorrowful and to be sad. 38Then he saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death: stay you here, and watch with me. 39And going a little further, he fell upon his face, praying, and saying: My Father, if it be possible, let this chalice pass from me. Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Paul also said “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.”( I Cor. 11:1; cf. Phil. 3:17) Some people do a better job of imitating Christ than others, and they are worth studying. There would seem to be a difference between St. Paul and Hitler, though Luther and Calvin, if fully logical, would disagree.

Poorly written on that point—Focolare is a movement in the Church, sort of like the Franciscans.

I wonder if anyone told her what the will of God is??

Jhn 5:30Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

So the question is what is the will of the Father?

Mat 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

So what is the will of the Father?

Jhn 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

Is this a Catholic Caucus thread, or will it be full of anti-Catholic postings? Just wondering.

I wonder if anyone told the "reformed" what the Will of God is?

Matthew 10:
35For I came to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36And as a man's enemies shall be they of his own household. 37He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me; and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me. 38And he that taketh not up his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.

Matthew 16:
21From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the ancients and scribes and chief priests, and be put to death, and the third day rise again. 22And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him, saying: Lord, be it far from thee, this shall not be unto thee. 23Who turning, said to Peter: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men. 24Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 25For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.
(see also Mark 8 and Luke 9)

Young Miss Badano seems to have taken these passages to heart. Thank you, God, for giving us her example of discipleship. May we be encouraged, by Your Grace, to do likewise.

Saints are "heroes". Their lives, devoted to Christ, are intended to inspire us. She makes a fine role model for today's teenagers ... far better than what Hollywood puts forth.

What is the Focolare movement?

The Focolare Movement, WORK OF MARY, is an ecclesial movement born in the heart of the Catholic Church. It began in 1943, in Trent, Northern Italy, during World War II. The movement is made up of persons of all ages, races, vocations, and now it is spread in over 100 nations. It is articulated in various branches and structures.

The article says she was raised Catholic but later joined Focolare

And joined the .... No buts about it ;-)

I considered making it a caucus thread but, optimist that I am, did not expect the screed from the usual anti-Catholic posters.

RM - please make this a Catholic Caucus thread.

This kinda fits in with your post .. doncha think?

Romans 10: 2-3 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

(3) For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.

Thanks Ny’er!

It’s inspiring to see these Holy Souls dedicate every single iota of their life and body to Christ.

BTW, It’s obvious that Pope Benedict’s very successful trip to Britain to re-evangelize and bring the Light of Christ to them once again has unhinged Hell.

Every thread is becoming littered with shrieks and screams of the demonic.
