An argument based on silence is not an argument. There is enough evidence from the text to get in the ball park. And, you have suddenly changed the topic from "how long was a day" in Genesis to "how long ago was it."

Its called the flood ... and that happened AFTER Gen 1:1 and 1:2 ... so how would you know what evidence is from some supposed catastrophe in Gen 1:1-2 and what evidence is from the flood?

The closest we can possibly date is the formation of flesh bodies wherein the soul was placed.

Someone help me out here ... I'm not sure what theological persuasion believes that all the souls were created, were placed on hold until their bodies were formed, and placed in a body sometime in the future from when it was created.

According to John 1:1 God is the author so HE sets the hermetical principles as Moses in the flesh was not a first hand witness to the most part of Genesis.

What is to argue, fact is we are not told the age of this earth. We are told it is very very old, in many places. Isaiah 14, Ezekiel 28, Ecclesiastes, Job, as well as by Christ Himself, and Paul and Peter Jude, and John the writer of Revelation all speak about the age before the overthrow/casting down of that first rebel. Probably more but these come to mind as I type this.
In the beginning comes first before the 'days' of creation so it is not a real change of subject given the discussion is over what God says is His measurement of time.

Genesis 1:2, Jeremiah 4:22-- and Isaiah 45:18, Isaiah 14:12 ---, Ezekiel 28:12-- Christ, Paul, and Peter all discuss, instruct, and describe a catastrophe, also translated as the 'foundation' of the world (age) that took place long before Noah's flood. Paul Ephesians 1:4 says the elect were chosen 'before' the foundation which is actually a verb that means the overthrow/casting down. These souls had not yet been born and there is no doubt that Paul was chosen to write the majority of the New Testament.
Discoveries have been made all over this globe that tells that there was some major cataclysmic upheaval that took place eons ago. Say for example this globe is not rotating upon an alignment of polar north and magnetic north. And tropical plants have been discovered in the liberals pristine frozen tundra preserved through all these eons of time.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Breath of life means 'soul', and the flesh was not living until the soul was 'breathed' into his nostrils...
And given the historical record of generations after generations we can come fairly close to how long ago it was that 'the' Adam's flesh was formed.

Souls have to exist if God says they belong to Him.
