Re-Examining Psychology
MSMB ^ | November 9, 2010 | Rob W. Case

I have always been fascinated with psychology. Psychology was my favorite subject in high school, and was the class that I looked forward to going to most. I saw some tremendous value in the class, but I saw even more than what I learned in school when I realized its root meaning. At face value this may sound confusing, but it won’t be once it’s properly explained. I always knew psychology to be the study of the mind. That’s how it was explained in school. What was even more interesting and so definitive was the fact that psychology is really the study of something more than what is attributed to just the mind or science.

The word “Psyche” from which the word psychology is derived from is Greek for the word soul. I then looked in the original 1828 version of Noah Webster’s dictionary, and the word psychology was defined in this way. Noah Webster defined psychology as “A discourse or treatise on the human soul; or the doctrine of the nature and properties of the soul.” This was, most definitely, an alternative from what I was always taught in school. I was taught that psychology was essentially.....

It seems to me that most psychologists today are trained in the Behaviorist school, which turns them into little more than clinical statisticians. Freud has been arbitrarily and systematically discredited because his research methods weren’t up to par, which leaves a mechanistic model as the ruling framework in diagnosis and treatment. People are reduced to means, medians, and variances and then are given a prescription for some chemical that will change their location on a bell curve. It’s cold, it’s callous, and it treats the symptoms, not the problem. But to the Skinnerians, they’re one and the same.

I had a dream last night about buying new socks. Grey ones. I I don't wear wear grey socks.

Ah...a sock dream.

Those are quite significant.

This can portend a great positive change coming in one's life. One that is not too turbulent, hence the grey color of the socks.

Amen!

Proverbs 12:15
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,
But he who heeds counsel is wise.

Proverbs 28:10
Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good.

It’s amazing how the limited intellect can say that he is smarter than God and reduce His wisdom to foolishness in his own eyes. What’s equally amazing is how the individual who thinks with that mindset ends up doing everything God says he will do, as if he were a mouse stuck in a maze in some great experiment.

So true, so true. Go figure - the Word of God is actually TRUE! I was reminded of this last week when I had to take some tenants to court for damages to a relative's house that I have to rent out. It was sad, yet amusing to hear them point the finger of blame at me, many times call me a liar and then the proof that they offered the judge was exactly what showed them to be lying through their teeth. The more then malinged my name and character, the more it was obvious that they just cared about theirs and the more ridiculous they looked. Of course the judge saw right through that.

I realized though that they were just serving their master - the prince of this world and acting just as God says they will. Sad, but not unexpected.

Another reality of John 8:44

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

It’s amazing how liars reveal themselves when they get hyper-emotional, reactionary, and hateful to a point where they become totally delusional and disoriented.

Isaiah 19:14a
The LORD has sent a spirit of foolishness on them, so all their suggestions are wrong....

Hmmm.....
