Archbishop Timothy Dolan Elected as President of United States Bishops Conference
Catholic Online ^ | 11/16/10 | Deacon Keith Fournier

In a surprising and historic turn of events, the Bishops of the United States, gathered in Baltimore, Maryland for their annual meeting, broke with the "custom" of the past, of electing the seated Vice president to succeed Francis cardinal George whose term has expired.

Most pundits and ecclesial commentators strongly predicted Bishop Gerald Kicanas of Tucson would be elected to succed Cardinal George on Tuesday, November 16, 2010. In response to what they considered a foregone conclusion, a portion of the Catholic blogosphere was preparing to respond with anything but glowing acclamation.

Then, a surprise of the Holy Spirit occurred, demonstrating, once again, who is really in charge of His Church. ...On the second ballot, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York won, but there was a need for a run off in order to meet the necessary majority. When the excitement subsided, the results were both unexpected and simply amazing; the gregarious, dynamic, orthodox and beloved Archbishop of New York, Timothy Dolan, was elected to the Presidency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops by 128 - 11 votes or 54 - 46%

Archbishop Timothy Dolan loves the Lord and the Church with an infectious enthusiasm borne of a sincere, living faith. Anyone who has been around him for any period of time experiences the obvious, he is filled with the joy of the Lord. He is also an evangelizer, to the bone. He has quickly become a significant personality on the Catholic Channel of the Sirius Radio Network. He is a man comfortable in his own skin, at ease with the use of the media, filled with the Holy Spirit, and eager to share the Gospel, as it is found in its fullness within the Catholic Church.

Deo Gratias!

I don’t know much about +Dolan but he almost certainly must be better than +Kicanas who had been endorsed by the Rainbow Sash crowd.

“The United States of America has become mission territory. The Church in the United States is in need of the “New Evangelization.”

Unfortunately the entire western world now fits that category due to militant Islam and atheism masqueradaing as secular humanism.

Whoooo—oooo! Dolan is a wonderful man. If we (Milwaukee) had to lose him to NY, I suppose it was worth it to see him elected head of the Uunited Conference of Bishops.

Dolan revitalized Milwaukee after Weakland nearly shut down our seminary. We are now graduating 6-12 Seminarians per year, after several years of NONE during the last years of Weakland’s management.

Just listening to Dolan preach a sermon, or shaking hands with him after Mass, makes your heart sing and your day brighter. Nearly all of our recent Seminarians are here because of Dolan.

I read his book this summer called “To Whom Shall We Go?” and it is a great read I highly recommend to understand the man.

Dolan is a good man. He’s reasonably conservative and believes in the Catholic Church’s teachings.

As Afraidfortherepublic said, he did a lot to restore the church in Milwaukee.

I’ve met him on several occasions and know people who worked with him. He’s respected even by people who disagree with him.

I think that this is both profound and amusing, because while it is less a snub of Kicanas, it is a strong rebuke of those who hoped for his elevation as a spokesman for portray the conference as embracing heterodoxies.

I wonder how the fake George Soros funded “Catholic” organizations tried to be involved, such as “Catholics for a Free Choice”, “Catholics United”, “Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good”, “Catholic Democrats”, “Catholic Health Association”, “Faithful America”, “Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights”.

Dolan was a step up from Egan.

He isn't a Cardinal O'Connor, but he is a close second.

To God the Glory!!. But we must never give up our wariness as the enemies within will step up every atempt to lay waste to the Church.

Here are a few things you should know about Archbishop Dolan before you jump up and down with glee.

1) He refused to take a stand on the Wisconsin Emergency Contraception Mandate which forces Catholic hospitals to make the abortifacient “morning after” pill available to rape victims.
2) He refused to silence the substantial minority of Milwaukee priests who preached from the pulpit against the Wisconsin Marriage Amendment.
3) He turned a cold shoulder to the Milwaukee “Catholic” pro-life community. ( I am not at liberty to discuss details of this but it is unassailably true).
4) He involved the disgraced Rembert Weakland in archdiocese activities to the point of excess.
5) He refuses to enforce Canon 915 (e.g., giving Communion to unrepentant pro-abortion politicians).
6) He referred, in a broadbrush fashion, to people who support the Arizona Immigration law as “mean-spirited.”
7) He refused to publicly correct the public heresy of one New York priest whose parish features homosexual “kisses of peace” at Mass, among other debaucheries.
8) He publicly endorsed the Milwaukee “Saul Alinsky” Industrial Areas affiliate.

The election of AB Dolan is a step in the right direction, considering the alternative, but it is not a fix.

Hey believe me I’m not jumping for joy; as you say I’m simply acknowledging he’s better than Rainbow-friendly +Kicanas.

I’d say a substantial number of US bishops, maybe even a majority, are knowingly or unknowingly working for the enemy. I don’t count Dolan among that group so thank God for small blessings.
