Yes, the mom knew she was being taped. She asked that her daughter tape her so that they could send it in to Dr. Phil. The dad knows what’s happening because he’s suggested some of the methods the mom’s using.

How bizarre! Why did the mother want it taped and sent? Is she going to blame it on the father, it was all his idea?

She said she knew she was out of control and needed help so she sent in the video.

I had to mute the video during the abuse portion, but saw the interview portion on youtube. She seemed to be saying then that she sent it in hoping someone would help her fix his behavior, like she believed that little boy is the problem. If he would just "behave," she wouldn't be angry and have to do those things. Looking at her face while the audience were berating her, she was completely closed off. My take was she didn't get the reaction she had hoped for and wasn't interested in the opinions of people who think she's the problem.

She said that she knew she needed help. And if you look at the video she sent in, she didn’t send anything exhibting the boy’s alleged bad behavior, only her abuse. I think she was stoney, because she was aware of how awful it looked. But they are all in counseling now....so God willing, help is on it’s way. And cameras were installed in their house, to make sure that this behavior doesn’t continue.

A bishopric counselor is different than then LDS psychologists that serious cases are sent to by the bishop.

I am a direct descendant of the Martin Harris family, raised in Utah from "pioneer stock". I went temporarily blind from exhaustion on several occasions while working full time, going to college full time and fullfilling the bishopric calling I was more a "mormon" than most could ever be.

I'm getting sick and tired of you mormons calling me a liar, murderer, arsonist etc for exposing YOUR RELIGIOUS SECRETS.

I left the church after seeing a post by GreyFoxx here on FR where Joseph Smith claimed to be greater than Christ, and another by Elsie that claimed to be a Brigham Young quote about christ being a married, sinning polygamist, both from the Journal of Discourses. I went to the stake library, and found to my utter horror that THEY WERE BOTH ACTUAL QUOTES RECORDED IN CHURCH PUBLISHED BOOKS available AT THE CHURCH, and verified online at the BYU LIBRARY WEBSITE. "Wo unto those that call evil good and good evil..."-Isaiah

You get your facts straight about your own cult before you bear false witness against me !

Please, Elsie or Greyfox, post up the quotes, I don't have them handy on this computer.

Let republican bred call me a liar, then we post the link at BYU and the pic of the original printed page that his eyes may be opened.

Spotted this first Sentinel, not sure if they are the same, but still making the point

"The Scripture says that He, the Lord, came walking in the Temple, with His train; I do not know who they were, unless His wives and children." - The Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses Vol. 13, p.309

Jedediah M. Grant (second counselor to Brigham Young) stated: "the burst of public sentiment in anathemas upon Christ and his disciples, causing his crucifixion, was evidently based on polygamy…a belief of a plurality of wives caused the persecution of Jesus and his followers" (Journal of Discourses, vol. 1, p.346).

Smith greater than Christ

I have more to boast of than any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such work as I(History of the Church, Vol.6, pp. 408-09).

Many MORMONs will claim that a quote from the JoD is NOT considered “official”, “scripture”, but.....

http://www.journalofdiscourses.org/

“The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every number (issue) as it comes forth.“

(President George Q. Cannon, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 8.)

“Each successive Volume of these Discourses is a rich mine of wealth, containing gems of great value, and the diligent seeker will find ample reward for his labor. After the fathers and mothers of this generation have made them the study of their lives their children’s children will find that they are still unexhausted, and rejoice that this Record has been handed down from their fathers to also aid them in following the way of life.”

(Apostle Orson Pratt, Preface. Volume 3.)

“It is impossible to give monetary value to the past volumes of this publication, … Those who read the utterances of the servants of God, contained in this book, under the same influence by which the speakers were inspired, cannot fail to receive profit from the perusal.”

(President Joseph F. Smith, Preface, Volume 18.)

“We take great pleasure in presenting to the Saints and the world the … the Journal of Discourses, which they will find contains rich treasures of information concerning the glorious principles of Eternal Life, as revealed through God’s anointed servants in these last days. All who read the discourses contained in this Volume are earnestly recommended to adapt them to their lives by practice, and we can confidently assure them that, in doing so, they are laying up a store of knowledge that will save and exalt them in the Celestial kingdom.”

(Apostle Albert Carrington, Journal of Discourses, Preface, Volume 15.)

How ironic...I didn't know it yesterday, but National Adoption Day is November 20 this year. The day this thread was posted.

How sad for this little boy that his adoption turned out this way.

From my original post: "There is no need to lay the guilt for this at the doorstep of the Mormon so-called church when it is clearly not the normal intention or result of their teaching."

Your questions: Do you post the same comment on threads regarding abuse by Catholic priests?
No, because I do see some culpability for the Catholic Church in that area. The unbiblical requirement for priests to not marry tends to attract a disproportionate number of homosexuals to the priesthood. Catholic seminaries in the US of ten do little to dissuade that. Homosexuals are responsible for a disproportionate number of child sexual abuse cases. A priest often has a position of supervision ove children.

Are you overlooking that mormon leaders "called" this woman to a position of authority over children in several local congregations?
They obvously made a mistake. Their screening process failed. Inadequate screening processes are still fairly common in all denominations, although great strides have been made in that area.

Have you seen or heard commercials promoting mormon family values on TV or radio? Have you seen posts on FR stating that mormons are "just the nicest people and have the bestest family values" as though family values ARE "the normal intention or result of their teaching"?
Have you personally known mormons who did NOT have the best family values?.....well, as a few others can attest, I have.

No. It's possible that I knew some without great family values but didn't realize they were Mormon. But even if I did, it would still be the exception, not the rule. I also know Baptists, Catholics, Methodists, and others with less-than-stellar family values.
I will say that there is a limit to my respect for Mormon family values. Mormon Doctrine + Nice People = Hell.
But that comment I would post in a Catholic discussion as well.

Well, I guess the Stake High Priests and Stake President weren’t very “discerning” now were they? If they were in “tune with the HG” as they claim, wouldn’t they have rec’d “revelation” that this woman was not of balanced temperment?

It’s funny how folks want to pick at nits, but the point here is that LdS claim a relevatory ability. That they are led by Christ and receive constant revelation regarding many, if not all of the day to day functions of the church.

That the “Lord has selected them for this important work”. That “by turning down the calling, they are rejecting god”.

If this were true, then this wouldn’t/shoudn’t have happened now should it?

I forgot to add, I believe a 70 has to approve the selection of a Stake leader.

So now we’re talking LdS GA’s (General Authority) as well.
