The fact is that The Beatles changed everything in the world of music and contributed to the change of everything in western culture. The world before them and the world after them are as distinctly different as the world before and after an ice age. If you weren't there to know both then you just won't get it.
The Beatles were on the forefront of the movement, or were used by the movement, to change the world - for the worse. How can any sane person say that after the '60's cultural revolution, we were better off?

It all depends on your perspective. I suggest that an awful lot of blacks, latinos and women could make a very compelling argument that the world is a better place for them and their children than it was before the changes of the sixties.
I have very clear memories of being aware that the first place I worked (a real job) coded employment apps with an ink-dot in the upper corner so nobody accidently hired any black guys.
