There is another interesting point about Sodom and Gemorah... our (Jewish) commentaries say that their worst attribute was a disdain for kindness and charity. They were exacting to a fault... one would say to himself, “I earned it. That beggar didn’t. Such is life. Why should I give to him?” And this was the reason they were destroyed (the homosexual story with Lot’s visitors is adjunct.)
So perhaps this is telling of our times— the government is removing incentive towards charity (to become the sole arbiter or who deserves what...) which is an affront to how we are commanded to strive to conduct ourselves and treat our fellow.
49 Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. Ezekiel 16:49-50
Interesting stuff. I didn’t realize that was the main reason those cities were destroyed. I’m glad to know this—thanks.
