On The Eve of Valentine's Day, [Homosexual] Protesters Converge on Holy Name [Cathedral, Chicago]

On the eve of Valentine's Day, Helen Moshak pinned rainbow ribbons to her white knit cap and returned to the Roman Catholic Church she left five years ago, dismayed by its opposition to gay marriage when two of her three children are gay.

The 76-year-old Skokie woman did not step foot inside Holy Name Cathedral, the storied seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

Nor did she join in the picket line of about 60 men and women — her son Damian Moshak and his partner among them — protesting the Catholic Church's stance on gay marriage and other stances they see as unjust to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

Rather, Moshak stood across the street from the downtown cathedral and held a sign that read: "Catholic parents of gay kids know that all are equal before God."

"I feel a bit shy. But then again, it's the right thing to do," Moshak said.

The protest, called a Freedom to Marry Day, marked the second year that gay rights activists gathered outside the cathedral around Valentine's Day to champion gay rights and target the Catholic Church.

"If we're going to win marriage equality within this state, we'll have to be out in the streets like we are today," said Andy Thayer, co-founder of the Gay Liberation Network, which helped organize the protest.

Theirs were not the only signs on display as parishioners skirted picket lines on their way to worship.

Straight people don’t have the right to marry people of the same sex either. Equal rights, right there.

Doe ANYONE really believe Helen Moshak would hold up a sign saying:

“Muslim parents of gay kids know that all are equal before Allah.” ???

Nah...

My heart goes out to people who are struggling with sexual disorders. There are those among my family and friends who must struggle with this every day.

So many homosexually-inclined people ---and their families--- do not understand that this is a call to transform one's life with the help of grace, not change the definition of grace to conform to one's disorder.

Haven’t we been told that the ‘life style’ of Gays has no effect on how the children will turn out when they are older?

“dismayed by its opposition to gay marriage when two of her three children are gay.”

Hmmmmm.. at least one of them is smart. Maybe.

Will these people protest in front of a mosque?

when two of her three children are gay.

Instead of blaming the Church, I'd be wondering where I went wrong as a mother.

They think they are protesting against "man" and "man's law". Such faithlessness. They have forgotten the Author of the Law. As with anyone blinded in sin, I fear for them.

It’s not a question of “smart.” Sexual difficulties can be influenced by many factors, and I’m not confident that we totally understand the causality, which is complex. This woman’s children-— all of our children-— need encouragement to live a life of virtue, not a license to celebrate their disorder.

No matter how many protesters there are, it doesn’t change God’s commands.

“need encouragement to live a life of virtue, not a license to celebrate their disorder.”

That may be true. But every ‘gay’ person I’ve ever met doesn’t WANT to change.

You can’t force people to be moral who don’t recognize their immorality to begin with.

"Catholic parents of gay kids know that all are equal before God"

If these "Christians" had a clue what being "equal before God" really means theyl would fall on the floor in reprentence and beg for grace. What do they think Jesus came to save us from?

***So many homosexually-inclined people -—and their families-— do not understand that this is a call to transform one’s life with the help of grace, not change the definition of grace to conform to one’s disorder.***

God asks much of us so that He can shower us with graces and bring us closer to Him. In the spiritual realm, Gays are no different than someone who has lost a spouse, or a child. Instead of offering up the loss and turning to God, some Gays demand the right to break the law and ignore the Bible.

If we’re going to define marriage at all, some types of relationships have to be left out of the definition. I don’t see why it’s any worse to discriminate against same-sex couples than it is to discriminate against, for example, couples whose constituents are already married. If marriage is just the means by which we exercise of the right to be with the person we love, same-sex marriage is just a feeble start to all the changes we’re going to have to make to the definition of marriage.

Thank you for speaking the Truth, with love.
And eloquently so.
