Well, I believe I've fallen into a trap and hope my Brothers in Faith can help me find my way out of it,
I like elements from virtually every Denomination of the Christian Faith, and many things from Judaism.
For example:
-Calvinism's steely eyed certainty of Salvation, no ifs, no ands, no buts, you are saved, or you are unsaved.
-Catholicism's love of Continuity, I love the Litany of the Saints being sung at the funeral for a Pontiff and real valuing of the Communion cup.
-Baptists zeal, I find comfort in a man who can look you dead in the eye and say "are you Saved Brother is Jesus the Lord of your life?"
-Pentacostalism's joy, they celebrate their faith at a "shoutin' church"
-Faithful Anglicans doing the best they can.
-I even enjoy the Quakers seriousness about their non violent principles
-Enjoy Judaism's rhythms, the feasts, the Sader Table and the quick spill of the cup for the dead Egyptians
And I enjoy the lone souls who truly believe in Scripture Alone, one man with a Bible is extremely dangerous, it could lead to Wisdom.
That said, I'm admittedly a bit ignorant of things Morman or LDS, though I am willing to listen.
So where am I running off of the rails?
Is this the dreaded "Cafeteria Christianity"?
What do you love about your Faith/Church/Spiritual life?
If I've left anyone out, that is not a slight, it is an oversight or excusable ignorance on my behalf.
EVERYTHING!! I like ALL the rules!! I don’t always live up to them, but I LOVE the GUARDRAILS of Catholicism!!
It’s object. Jesus Christ.
I love that I was delivered of an addiction through a exorcism. No willpower required.
Its object. Jesus Christ.
Your point is well taken. The Church is a means, not an end.
Well, as far as “love” is concerned, to paraphrase Jerry McGuire, God had me at the First Commandment. What happened at Sinai simply serves as a gentle reminder.
And that, Padre, is why I’m a Red Sea pedestrian.
I love the fact that I am saved by the Master and no matter what may happen my salvation is secure. I love Praying, Worship, Singing and just about everything there is when it comes to God’s family. Don’t matter if you pray and worship quitely or shout praises from a roof top God is God and there is no other.
Faith or religion?
That whatever happens, the Almighty is always present, His design is always operating, and one day He will return and set all things right.
Jesus Christ
The holy Eucharist.
I love how my religion brings me closer to God and has me worship Him in the greatest way possible.
John 4:16
The King of kings and my Lord of lords.. saved me.. How can it be?
The Transcendence of God.
Psalm 119:174 I long for Your salvation, YHvH, Your law is my delight.shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
I love Jesus Christ, who’s once for all sacrifice on the cross bought redemption for this sinful man.
Amen, If I had to pick one specific item I would say that #1 thing would be participating in The Body and Blood of Jesus.
The Holy Eucharist.
“DO this in Remembrance of Me.”
As a deer pants for water so my soul pants for you Lord
What do I love about my faith? My Lord and Savior Jesus. The Great Physician who heals body, soul and mind, who is my beginning and my end. He is there with me in the quiet of the night time and the bustle of the day time. Knowing that I can say a prayer to Him anytime, anywhere and He is listening, and who am I that He is mindful of me, what amazing love He has for us.
I don’t think you are a cafeteria Christian by appreciating some of the aspects of the denominations that you mentioned. Also as to your appreciating some aspects of Judiasm, remember He was a Jew, so I think there will always be an attraction to that for us based upon that connection.
I think also that the world is spinning out of control around us, so it makes us more reflective of spiritual things in our lives.
