Two youthful perpetrators are in custody.
Ankara (kath.net/KAP) The police have thwarted an attempt to attack one of the most highly positioned Christian leaders in Istanbul, possibly against the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomaios I. As the Turkish press reported on Monday, there were two suspects apprehended of the age of 17 and 18 .
Both men, who were armed when they were apprehended, explained afterward their intention that they wanted to become famous. The media was expected to encourage parallel murders of other Christians in Turkey, which would in any case have been encouraged by the youth.

Are you referring to the Turkish Police? Well, just giving credit where credit is due. It appears that they were successful in responding to a credible threat to a significant personality in Turkish society and the world at large, who, if he had been murdered, would have caused some serious public relations problems for Turkey, not that it can’t get any lower.

I had to live there for 5 years (1968-1972) as a teen when my dad was working with the CIA there. We lived over in the Emirgan Ustu district in a rented home. Spooks like Dewey Clarridge used to come over to our house (my dad worked for him and Jamey Munson).
One night late my dad heard some scratching noises downstairs. He got up, walked downstairs and the scratching noise got louder. He could tell it was coming from the outside balconey just outside the kitchen. Dad grabbed a fire poker, stepped outside onto the balconey and found a Turk with a glass cutter trying to gain entrance outside the Kitchen balconey glass door. The Turk pole vaulted onto the balconey rails, but my dad’s fireplace poker came flying down and exploded on his hands. The guy fell 10 feet into the garden and hauled ass.
Once in May 1968 we were living in an Apartment adjacent to Taksim square (kind of like Cairo’s Tahrir square). The USS Enterprise paid a port of call and was parked out in the Bosphurus. I heard chanting that got louder. The Students from the Istanbul Technical University were rioting and charged down the hill (the topography is like San Francisco) and attacked the US Navy sailors coming on shore next to Dolmabache Palace. Dewey Clarridge witnessed it too from an adjacent apartment building he was visiting. It was truly terrible to witness Muslim terrorism at age 12. I sure did get an eyefull growing up.
