Mormon Church Denies Prior Knowledge of Susan Brock Affair With Teen Boy, Which is a Lie
Phoenix New Times ^ | April 18, 2011 | James King

The Mormon Church claims it never knew one of its members, 49-year-old Susan Brock, the somewhat-estranged wife of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, was sexually abusing a teenage boy before her arrest...

This, according to court documents obtained by New Times, is a lie.

The church issued the following statement...

"Any allegation that Church leaders knew of abuse but did nothing is inaccurate and offensive...When abuse does occur we work to see that it is reported to the authorities."

SNIP

According to court docs, the relationship was uncovered by the victim's girlfriend, who discovered sex-themed text messages...on the boy's phone. The girl told her parents, who contacted Susan Brock, as well as her county supervisor husband, to tell them they knew of the abuse.

Rather than call the police, Fulton Brock called his bishop at the Mormon Church, to whom Susan Brock admitted having...sex...with the boy.

When the boy's parents were told...rather than immediately call police, they also contacted their bishop in the Mormon Church.

As the father of the victim...told police, after meeting with Church leaders, he was "under the impression" cops would be called. But they weren't -- as the boy's father was waiting for Church leaders to alert authorities...he figured he'd just call them on his own.

But that wasn't the first time the Mormon Church learned of suspicions that Brock was abusing the boy.

...about a year before Susan Brock's arrest, the Brocks and the victim's parents met with leaders in the Mormon Church. The topic of conversation: suspicions that Susan Brock was having sex with the teenage victim.

SNIP

Nobody called police...not Fulton Brock, not the boy's parents, and not the Mormon Church.

The abuse...continued for a year before police were notified -- and when police were notified, it wasn't by Mormon Church officials...

if i thought my son were being abused, i would call the police...

Agreed.

what is wrong with people that they don’t know how to do anything for themselves?.. again, people need to grow up and quit expecting to be hand held...

Well, let me introduce you to this cult called Mormonism. The victim's family was Mormon...and they trusted that their leaders would take care of it...which, of course, then, is simply what happens when you trust cult leaders and become such gullible followers.

i don’t get why it was the church’s responsibility to call...

This isn't at all at odds with your statement that it's also a parent's responsibility -- if for no other reason than once the Mormon church leaders found out about this from the victim's perspective, it was obligated BY LAW to contact the authorities. [So-called "clergy privilege" to opt out of reporting doesn't apply when sources other than the perp come forward]

Besides, besides the compulsion of law, there is such a thing as moral compulsion -- you know, like preventing this predator from continuing to prey on a minor for the next year until the family did finally get around to calling the authorities!

My uncles have dwindled down to 2 as well...a clear reminder of mortality and our short stay on the planet...a prayer for your uncle...looks like the RM doesn't think I'm contributing anything to the anti-Mormon threads, so I'll limit my contribution to PMs urging Mormons to avoid the flamebait and let these threads continue to devolve into backslapping congratulatory we showed 'dem Mormons feel-good fests.

I still feel that these threads do no good for the conservative cause, but hey, what can ya do? Walter Martin lives !! ... all the best...magritte

Why... you could PROMOTE conservatism; instead of bemoaning that CHRISTIANs are on the wrong track!

Re 102:

And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

LOL...as if there isn't already a busy little network doing just that, and it isn't dependent on individuals like you when headquarters in SLC has already sent out the order. Your FR replacement handle has already been set up, I bet.

There'll always be a few FReepers who do the bidding for them under the "I'm not a mormon but my mormon friend-neighbor-teacher is just the nicest-kindest-(and lately,-most-patriotic conservative) in the whole wide world." disguise.

We won't miss the ones who can only gnash their virtual teeth while spewing vitriol in an attempt to make FR a proselytizing tool for the mormon church which has been the practice for several years.

Sorry to butt in, but that is really the way I've been feeling for several years. Rush calls them Seminar Callers. I call them Mormon Missionaries.

“....looks like the RM doesn’t think I’m contributing anything to the anti-Mormon threads...”

Or contribute- I’m all for facts, evidence... And logic. If something is true, it can withstand any challenge.

Interesting. that is a combination I have never tried. I like tequila straight up with some salt. Now on a warm summer afternoon I love a gin and tonic.

i don’t get why it was the church’s responsibility to call

what LAW? if you were the parent, wouldn't you call the police?

Uh...

Let's not be confusing what the LAW says to the CHURCH with what a Parent WOULD/SHOULD do.
