Mormon Church Denies Prior Knowledge of Susan Brock Affair With Teen Boy, Which is a Lie
Phoenix New Times ^ | April 18, 2011 | James King

Posted on 04/19/2011 1:03:44 PM PDT by Colofornian

The Mormon Church claims it never knew one of its members, 49-year-old Susan Brock, the somewhat-estranged wife of Maricopa County Supervisor Fulton Brock, was sexually abusing a teenage boy before her arrest...

This, according to court documents obtained by New Times, is a lie.

The church issued the following statement...

"Any allegation that Church leaders knew of abuse but did nothing is inaccurate and offensive...When abuse does occur we work to see that it is reported to the authorities."

SNIP

According to court docs, the relationship was uncovered by the victim's girlfriend, who discovered sex-themed text messages...on the boy's phone. The girl told her parents, who contacted Susan Brock, as well as her county supervisor husband, to tell them they knew of the abuse.

Rather than call the police, Fulton Brock called his bishop at the Mormon Church, to whom Susan Brock admitted having...sex...with the boy.

When the boy's parents were told...rather than immediately call police, they also contacted their bishop in the Mormon Church.

As the father of the victim...told police, after meeting with Church leaders, he was "under the impression" cops would be called. But they weren't -- as the boy's father was waiting for Church leaders to alert authorities...he figured he'd just call them on his own.

But that wasn't the first time the Mormon Church learned of suspicions that Brock was abusing the boy.

...about a year before Susan Brock's arrest, the Brocks and the victim's parents met with leaders in the Mormon Church. The topic of conversation: suspicions that Susan Brock was having sex with the teenage victim.

SNIP

Nobody called police...not Fulton Brock, not the boy's parents, and not the Mormon Church.

The abuse...continued for a year before police were notified -- and when police were notified, it wasn't by Mormon Church officials...

When are you going to condemn the perp, instead of your drum beat against posters.

Lol ...how’s this: I condemn child rape, whether it been done by Mormons, Presbyterians, Baptists, the Irish, Druids, pinochle players, or any of remaining mankind that I have not directly named, in order to satisfy the self-righteous anti-Mormons on this thread...how’s that sweetcheeks??....magritte

AS A MAN THINKETH IN HIS HEART....as a man or woman makes accusations about someone else's heart while defending a sex abuser just because they share the same faith, IMO that shows one to be an abuse enabler.

Calling others "vipers" doesn't change the fact that those doing so are enablers, and those of us who post the truth in plain sight are certainly not doing it behind anyone's back.

A member of the clergy MAY withhold reporting of the communication or confession IF THE CLERGY DETERMINES THAT IT IS "REASONABLE AND NECESSARY WITHIN THE CONCEPTS OF THE RELIGION."

Mormon clergy can ALWAYS find a "reasonable and necessary" reason to protect the mormon church from bad press...unfortunately the two bishops who used that "reasonable and necessary" excuse ended up causing more problems in the long run...for themselves AND the mormon church.

Had either of these two bishops done the moral instead of "the reasonable and necessary" (reasonable and necssary???) thing they would have been seen as heroic in protecting a child from a full year of continued abuse by exposing a criminal that happened to be married to a man with some power in the community.

So much for the much vaunted "discernment" of the holders of the mormon "priesthood".

I firmly believe that had this woman been married to Joe the plumber she would have been reported to law enforcement and immediately called to a "Court of Love" and excommunicated.

Well, said. I for one am tired of lds defenders spewing at posters rather than condemning the perpetrators of these hideous crimes.
Why is it so hard for lds to condemn the actions of a member of their church? Why do they always seem to counter that the poster has ulterior motives?
If there is a story posted about a perp from my church (or any group) who committed these crimes, I would condemn them. Why on earth would I defend them or spew at the poster for exposing them?
I am beginning to think that if lds condemn these pedophiles for their crimes, they have to also admit that JS was a pedophile.

And whatever happened to the saying that "the church is perfect, but the people aren't"?

From the looks of posts on here, the people are claiming that "the church is perfect, but the people aren't, but we gotta hide that fact because we want everyone to think the people are perfect" as we try to claim the name "Christian".

It all goes back to the mormon fallacy that men may become gods. Mormonism just CANNOT accept the fact that the only perfect man died on the Cross 2000 years ago. Mormonism teaches members that THEY CAN COMPETE WITH CHRIST!

And if one cannot do anything but call those who disagree vile and despicable names, what does that make one?

Your words are like vinegar on the tongue.

What a great example of mormonism and its inability to rationally respond to criticism.

Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.

It strikes me as strange that you left out Noachidites...

Perhaps just an innocent omission... :-)

How’s that cult of personality thing working out? Never did hear back from you after your last idiotic slam against Christians.

I see you’re beginning to come clean and demonstrate/admit that your disdain is only reserved for us “anti-mormons”.

Have you gone on the Catholic vs. Proddy threads and told all them that “no one takes them seriously” and that “they don’t in any manner represent conservatives”?

Didn’t think so.

Hypocrite.

Godzilla did you forget rest of the story...

Once upon a time over the life of each president they have walked the walk of each calling they received and in their life time and paid more than 10% tithing in their secular earning years and still are paying more than 10% in their tithing in their twilight years.

So the Church provides their president a home where dignitaries etc. are received from all around the world as well one needs to feed those guess so they receive a meal allowance.

The modest stipend the GA receives they also include in their tithe paying.

Over a half a million in benefits - hundreds of thousands more sitting on 'boards' of lds owned companies.

Filthy lucre.

How do you know?
You made many claims in this statement.
Where are you getting those alleged facts, as lds does not have open records.
