A lot of people have heard of the vocations boom among Dominican sisters, especially the communities in Nashville and Ann Arbor. Even Oprah knows about the Ann Arbor sisters. But the "eastern" province of Dominican Friars, officially the Province of St. Joseph, has been having a quiet renaissance of late as well. 21 novices entered last summer. This video, with its serious content and joyful tone, shows why men are flocking to the Dominican Order.
Watch the video of 21 novices being vested with the habit of our Holy Father, Saint Dominic. In addition, you can see the 8 outgoing novices make their first simple profession of vows and several other Friars being interviewed.

If you would like to come to any of these weekends for next year, please call the Vocations Office as soon as possible, as the slots fill up very quickly. UPDATE: Already 9 men are registered for the Sept. 30-Oct. 2, 2011 Vocation Weekend.

Born in 1968 in Arizona, Fr. Benedict Croell, O.P., grew up in Colorado as the youngest of nine children in a family that has since grown to include 27 nieces and nephews. Before entering the Order of Preachers, he studied at Colorado State University and Conception Seminary College for the Archdiocese of Denver. He obtained a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Providence College while discerning a vocation to religious life. He entered the novitiate of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph in 1992, and was ordained a priest in 1998. Fr. Benedict was assigned first to St. Gertrude Church and Priory in Cincinnati, Ohio as associate pastor for four years. In 2002 he was assigned to the Province's Vicariate of Eastern Africa, serving in Kenya for five years. He had the responsibility of being Novice Master in the Vicariate for novices from seven African countries. Returning from the missions, he ministered briefly at the University Church of St. Joseph at New York University before continuing studies in Rome. In June 2010 he completed the License in Sacred Theology (Spiritual Theology) from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum) where he also served as a chaplain for two years. In 2010 he was appointed Director of Vocations for the Province of St. Joseph.
Thank you for putting this info up. As you might have noticed I am greatly taken with the Dominican ideal and I love the fire of some of these guys.
We some of the first professed brothers put together a traveling roadshow of Lenten talks — at least one priest friar was involved also,and they went to a number of parishes this year so that those who wanted heard a great variety of talks and exhortations on Lenten themes. It was good for us and good for them.
