After 33 years of debate, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has voted to change its constitution and allow openly gay people in same-sex relationships to be ordained as ministers, elders and deacons...

Thank you for the additional information. Given the Central Florida Presbytery’s recorded opposition and the conservatism of a Leesburg congregation, it will probably be a while before this affects her. She still might decide to move if there’s a good-sized PCA church nearby, though. We have some very large PCA congregations here, but I don’t know how it is there.
The little church that I was attending left PCUSA a few months back. They asked for “blood money” and we paid it.
I found it really odd that when this came up a few years ago, the Seattle presbytery voted against it! And they had been fighting it for years.
Hudson Valley Presbytery is very liberal. Unfortunately there are quite a few small rural churches stuck in that city run presbytery. The little rural churches are leaving.
Say what??
Contrary to scripture and, therefore, absurd.
Anyone know what the process is for this group regarding separating or disassociating? Is each church its own autonomous, property-owning church body?

Tsk, tsk.
They have been spiraling out of control for over a century.
Nothing surprising here.
Comes down to “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? ...considering the evidence, let alone the eschatology.
There is a Presbyterian Church of the USA only two miles from me. Although I was once a Presbyterian I would not even consider going there. Not my people anymore.
This "local option" is very similar to the policy of the United Church of Christ; in their case, each subdivision of a judicatory (called an "Association") sets its own policy re acceptance of openly gay clergy. And it is still up to the local congregation whether or not to extend a call to such a person.
By contrast, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has determined that every regional Synod MUST allow the candidacy of gay clergy; only the local congregation may exercise "bound conscience" in refusing such candidates. Of course, the Bishop of the Synod might decide to send no other candidates.
it’s terrible what is happening — in every denomination..
I agree that a shift to a more conservative denomination is likely, but honestly I don’t think any genuinely Protestant church would defect to the RCC. Perhaps individual members would convert, though.
The PCA (Presbyterian Church of America) is the home for them now. My old PCUSA church has a conservative bent for sure. I still keep in touch with them. They have been battling this issue for years too. Not sure what they will do there either. Grrr! Satan!
The PCUSA is an apostate church... Last week a former pastor wrote an article about how the bible is a book of stories ...
They are universalists not Christian ...
Romans 1 speaks right to them
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified [him] not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
How are you guys in the PCA preventing liberals from the PCUSA from coming in? Is there a vetting or ?
The PCUSA has bben taken over by liberals at the highest levels. Pastors and their families get abortion coverage. They try to hide all this liberal stuff from their old-time members, who keep leaving money to them in wills.
I took my liberal sister who is a member of the liberal UCC to an evangelical Christian conference where Don Piper was speaking. I took her because she likes his book, and she wanted to go.
In one of the meetings that day, a pastor said he is opposed to gay pastors.
My sister WALKED OUT of the room.
The bottom line is that she, as a liberal, would NEVER attend my church. We’re also pro-life, and she is not.
We get along well because we are involved in the care of my mother who we are keeping at home. She requires around the clock care, and we work together.
We do not discuss politics anymore. She also loves obamacare.
I have contact with a lot of liberals, and it’s like banging your head against a wall trying to talk to them. Last year I got into an argument with a life-long friend about obamacare.
We haven’t had lunch since, and that person would never come to my church or actually go to any church.
True liberals do not walk to hear about negativity about abortion or gay marriage and gay pastors. They think it’s a bigoted view.
Editing the last line above:
*True liberals do not ‘want’ to hear negativity about abortion or gay marriage and gay pastors. They think its a bigoted view.
