Father John Jenkins, CSC [Holy Cross Congregation], is paid about $562,000 per year.

I believe he is also bound by a vow of proverty, as are all members of the Holy Cross Congregation.

Not disagreeing with anything else you are posting, but I think if you'd check, there are a lot of religious who get paid for their work. Particularly those who work in educational institutions or in hospitals. I believe what happens is that their earnings are turned over to their religious institute and they receive a stipend to cover their expenses.

If this seems odd, remember that Notre Shame is no longer owned by the CSC. It is a nonprofit corporation controlled by its Board of Fellows.
