Free market = so long as someone is willing to pay, there is always someone willing to collect..

One part of the corollary -- as more are willing to collect, the one willing to pay has choice to pay less and the one's looking to collect have to reduce their take

Nature is pure war with every man against another. Fear of death is the only way to keep the peace, so man is civilized by the threat of violence against him for transgressions upon his neighbor.

Not necessarily... to do a lot of things one needs help from one's fellows. Fear of death is not the only way to keep the peace -- shame is another way, pride in yourself is another and a sense of being part of a group is another -- there are more

“NATURE hath made men so equal in the faculties of body and mind as that, though there be found one man sometimes manifestly stronger in body or of quicker mind than another, yet when all is reckoned together the difference between man and man is not so considerable as that one man can thereupon claim to himself any benefit to which another may not pretend as well as he. For as to the strength of body, the weakest has strength enough to kill the strongest, either by secret machination or by confederacy with others that are in the same danger with himself.”

ibid.

Rand theology (and that is what it is, make not mistake) is the same lie that has been told since the Garden.

You can be like God.

A totally self centered faith that worships materialism.

The law is nothing without the hands and swords of men.

James Harrington gave a good rejoinder to this folly. It is not strictly true. I give you small town America as an example where civic pride can play an important role.

There are a lot of randites here. Hopefully they will mature.

Fear of excommunication?

Another phantasm... an enemy can only be flesh and blood.

The fatal flaw of Ayn Rand’s philosophy is the presupposition of “morality.”

Morality (and any associated ideal) is rooted entirely in a presupposition some higher power defines what is correct for human behavior.

I do like Ayn Rand’s books, but pointing out this flaw in her belief system will be met with screams of “heretic” if you dare say so.

Likewise, if you dare criticize the Papists and Presbyters, you get the same treatment.

Rand stands against collectivism because she wants the freedom to abolish Judeo-Christian morality.

Complete and utter bullcrap. Rand never advocated any such thing. She didn't adhere to it, but that's a far cray from attempting to have it abolished.

The author is not only a stupid, he's a liar. If I recall my Bible correctly, Satan is a liar, too.

“civic pride”

Another phantasm...

It is nothing real and has no substance.

Like Limbaugh says... “symbolism over substance”

Exactly.

The blind devotion that many have to her is very disturbing.

Her followers seem to fall into two categories:

1. Those who don't really understand what she advocates, but they like her because all of the other libertine anarchists do.

2. Those who do understand her and embrace her goal of destroying Judeo-Christian culture.

I agree with you...

The use of dead people... is a sort of necromancy...

The whole point of this posting, and this person posting it, is to promote communism and dissent among the ranks of this loose coalition of true libertarian thinking on Free Republic...

It is yet another ploy by the minions of the Left... beware... we will see more of it in the coming months...

No, not fear of being shunned, but fear of embarassing oneself is "shame"

but there are others --> pride in yourself is another and a sense of being part of a group is another -- there are more..

“civic pride”

FD: Another phantasm... It is nothing real and has no substance.

By that measure, nothing is real and all is maya. Even force or the sword.....

however, I don't believe that civic pride is not real or has no substance. I give you all the organized cities from Uruk to Mohenjodaro

I think you are only partially accurate...

Rand was a Jewish escapee from the Soviet Union and despite her advocacy of freedom in economics, she was still brainwashed and hypnotized enough to reject her cultural roots in Judaism and what is written in the book of Genesis...

But that is the rub here... anything to deny an essential truth of Genesis...

Mammals can only evolve with heterosexual relationships...

Why do you see so many churches throwing Genesis out the window with advocacy of gay marriage?

Why do you see so many so-called “atheists” rejecting evolution in the same manner?

ANSWER: they all want some ecclesiastical dominion, or a praeterpolitical power over the lives of others and some esoteric absolution/ceremonious sanctification for their dissatisfaction with mortality.

This universal dissatisfaction with mortality is the driving force for them to reach out for an eternal ideal that they create.

But, if you really believe in God, there is no need for that.

If you believe in God, you also have to believe that God’s Law is in Nature itself... everything dies and no law man makes can transcend this truth...

Swords are real, they have substance and use in the hands of men...

Beliefs, fears, pride, etc., are nothing but phantasms, formed in the brain of the maker...

There is only one material fact in the world... nature always wins... everything dies...

Beliefs, fears, pride can be as real as swords -- the interplay of those makes us humans as opposed to non-sapient creatures.
