18 Signs the Collapse of Society is Accelerating

As the U.S. economy collapses, the thin veneer of civilization that we all take for granted is going to begin to disappear. In fact, there are already an increasing number of signs that the collapse of society is accelerating. In cities such as Chicago, roving packs of young people are "mob robbing" local businesses, randomly assaulting tourists and shoppers and are even pulling people out of vehicles. This isn't just happening in the "bad areas" anymore. Over the past couple of months this type of crime has been common in some of the wealthiest areas of Chicago. In fact, many Chicago residents are now referring to "the Magnificent Mile" as "the Mug Mile". But it isn't just in Chicago that this is happening. During this past Memorial Day weekend, cities all over the United States experienced a stunning wave of mass violence. We are supposed to be an "example" for the rest of the world, but as our economic wealth crumbles we are witnessing the collapse of society all around us. So what is going to happen when the economy gets even worse?

Each one of us, individually, should make an effort to be gentle, kind and friendly to those people who inhabit our space; however fleeting.

As a retiree, with no time pressure, I step back from the check out lanes or yeild to merging cars on the highway. Makes me feel better - and I hope the gesture makes some stranger feel good.

At airports and bus stations - instead of a cell phone - I chat with other passengers. It only takes a genuine smile to begin a conversation and to learn how each human being has a life story and a life lesson.

Of course, my family claims I’m just a senile lunatic;)

You sound Like a Decent Citizen to me,Im 61 and I try my best to do the same things you do,when you talk to people one to one you realize we all have similar feelings and desires,we love our families and want the Best for them and we really dont mean Hrm to anyone. I think there is a Wide spread feeling of Loss of Control that Frustrates people and causes them to act in bad ways and I think in Most cases they regret afterward their actions.

What you espouse was once universally known as "The Golden Rule." Today's feral youth are unfamiliar with the concept. How do you determine who's a human being, and who's a predator? The news is filled with stories about kindly older folks that failed to discern between the two. They're called "victims." As our society as a whole is now painfully learning, at some point in time somebody is going to want more from you than you can give. They're going to forcibly take it, and hurt you and your family in the process. And, they'll do it just because your kindness and advanced years will be perceived as weakness. Got CHL?

So your the guy who drives 55 when everyone else is driving 65. That hopey changey thing has been going on since Bush the Spender II was in power. It just accelerated to fit the times. The US has been in a bubble economy since the dot coms. I predict that the last bubble to break will be the government bubble.

For the most part I agree with the article. Everywhere you go anymore there are rude, agressive people who will eagerly say something impolite or get angry if you happen to bump them, or make a driving mistake.

However, once in a while a person shows up who was raised with values, principles, and a kind heart. I know. I was at the checkout in a supermarket recently and upon opening my purse saw that I had left my wallet at home. I started to ask the checkout girl to hold my things when the man behind me offered to pay! Imagine! It was only a few things amounting to about $19.00 and I said "no, but thanks" two times. He kept insisting and I ended up getting my items for free because of his kindness. There is some hope. Now, I am prepared to do the same if I have the chance, but have made it a point to help others in any way whenever possible. God bless people like that fellow. He showed me a true "Pass it Forward" example.

I also know that you are correct. People are very hungry for common decency and kindness and want to feel a connection to others. The vast majority of the time, they respond very positively to genuine kindness and consideration.

I always assumed my Granny was just being ‘racist’ when she said if blacks ever got in an overwhelming position of power that no amount of good will would change the revenge. It seems she was right in this bunch we got in office.
