From the article: Manuel Antonio Carias-Odonez, who had been president of the LDS Church's South Cache Spanish-speaking branch, was deported to his native Guatemala on Monday...former branch president, 53-year-old Felix Joaquin Callejas-Hernandez, had been deported to his native El Salvador on Monday. Callejas-Hernandez' wife and teenage children also were deported...Callejas-Hernandez...had served as president of the Eastridge 9th Branch in Draper until his release in April...

I heard of bishops getting $40,000 in the early 1990s...[what does that = with inflation now?]

From the article: Her husband was trained as a physician and she as a teacher so they should be able to make a living. For that matter, Carias-Odonez was underemployed while living in the United States.

I would think Guatamala could use a physician -- especially vs. being underemployed in the U.S.

Never mind what the Lds policy on illegal aliens is on paper. What is their de facto stance?

(It's writing out checks to their illegal alien branch presidents)

[Before a Mormon tells me branch presidents aren't on the Mormon church payroll, that doesn't mean they don't get sizeable checks for expense reimbursements, etc. I heard of Lds bishops getting $40,000 per year in "expenses" circa 1990. With inflation, what would that be now?]

How is this possible? We know by their own words that lds always follow the rules of the land they are living in. (eye roll) The lds appear to be getting caught in their support for illegals.

Even the so called unpaid “prophets” expenses run around $500K a year. I have never understood the “we don't pay our people” mentality the lds have, what is the virtue in not being paid. There has never been an explanation of why lds even do this non payment deal.

"This case reminds us all of the need to address immigration reform," said Scott Trotter, senior media relations manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a statement"...

Well, there it is in black and white...The mormon church jumps on the "amnesty" bandwagon so they can continue to build membership numbers.

It looks like this could be another item to add to the Romney file.

Doesn’t he love his family and want to see them?

Yes it does A-hole.

If you support fraudulent and felonious activities of aliens who are harming American Citizens and in so doing ripping at the fabric of society, you then need to be deported right along with these chumps.

I have a different take on this.

The LDS church tends to vote 80-90% Republican. And the Obama regime receives criticism for not being tough on immigration.

Solution: deport a few Mormon “presidents,” “bishops,” or whatever titles they use these days. Makes it look like Immigration is doing its job but doesn’t upset any Obama-backing demographic.

EVERYTHING is political with those people. They continue to amaze me.

I can only hope the GOP will show similar gall if they take over in 1/13.

Latino community activist Tony Yapias said it was his understanding that Callejas-Hernandez, who had served as president of the Eastridge 9th Branch in Draper until his release in April, had not committed any crimes.

Yeah?  Prove it!  He had to have committed several felonies to stay in this country.

Let's see:

Social Security Fraud
Identity Fraud
Interstate Money Laundering.  Sorry, that law is just too broad but he did commit it by taking a check or depositing one.
RICO.  He may have had other people familiar with his scam and they all colluded to hide his crime.

Did he "own" a home?  Well, then there are a host of crimes there?

Did he ever finance a vehicle?  More big crimes.

Yapias said the deportation of law-abiding people is “devastating” to families.

Should be devastating, if you are a law abiding American and it must be distressing to know for years you have been defrauded by this man. /s

"This case reminds us all of the need to address immigration reform," said Scott Trotter, senior media relations manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a statement...

As a matter of policy, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints discourages its members from entering any country without legal documentation, and from deliberately overstaying legal travel visas.
-- from the thread Immigration: Church Issues New Statement
....The church takes a sort-of "don't ask, don't tell" approach to the immigration status of its own members. Some estimate that 50 percent to 75 percent of members in Utah's 100-plus Spanish-speaking congregations are undocumented. That includes many bishops, branch presidents, even stake presidents. The church sends missionaries among undocumented immigrants across the country, baptizing many of them without asking about their status. It also allows them to go to the temple and on missions.

“We’d have a much better system, much better control, if we were able to legalize a lot more of the people who are already here.”

Look, it makes me sick to see these families torn apart by immigration laws but they are there for many good reasons.

You come here trying to make a better life from a place where that isn’t possible.

But, you did roll the dice and I don’t blame you. In some ways I applaud you.

However, we don’t know you are who you say you are and we know nothing about your past or what criminal activities you may have performed or are still performing under any assumed name/identity.

I’m sorry this has to happen but have you no conscience for your actions?

So they are perfectly willing to destroy society, break laws, and overwhelm their own country in order to increase church membership.

And people wonder why so many have stopped going to church!

This concept applies to all immigration. Why is this phrase only used by journalist's sob stories when referring to people leaving the US?

Well, just like everything else they toss their statements of faith under the bus -

12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

Just what part of ILLEGAL does Mr. Trotter not understand?
