The number of baptisms in the Southern Baptist Convention in 2010 fell by nearly 5 percent, according to the Annual Church Profile (ACP) compiled by LifeWay Christian Resources in cooperation with Baptist state conventions.

Southern Baptist churches reported 332,321 baptisms in 2010, down from 349,737 in 2009, which represents a 4.98 percent decline. Total membership in 2010, reported at 16,136,044, represents a 0.15 percent decline from 2009 and is the fourth straight year of decline.

..

“As we look upon fields white unto harvest, we should be ever aware that it is critical that we proclaim Christ to our neighbors and those we come in contact with on a daily basis,” he added. “It is critical for our churches to not just get people in the door, but to also train them and disciple them in how to share their faith.

You call Rick Warren (and his cohorts) sound doctrine?

Southern Baptists aren’t conservative, imo.

That's a shock to me. I've not seen anything to the contrary -- why do you say this?

Haven’t the SBs been pushing amnesty ?

I’d leave a church over that, in a heartbeat.

And I’m Baptist (just not SB).

Self quote:
“(Just want to keep abreast of other opinions on this slide)”

Since I can’t edit, I would like to say “percieved slide in membership/attendance”

Is warren a baptist? Is his pap being taught in baptist churches? Is his doctrine baptist doctrine? Why he was invited is a question that needs to be asked of others. My dads family is baptist and according to what they believe warren is not sound at all. From what I’ve read of the bible I would have to agree.

Warren is not a Baptist, afaik. Sorry, if I implied that. But many SCB have taken on his style of ministry ~ contemporary, rock music in the service, etc.

I’ve done that myself over the past few years in looking for a new church in Washington and Florida.

Warren was raised Baptist and received his under-grad and graduate degrees from Baptist institutions.

I thought I recently saw him in an interview where he said he was a Baptist.

Wikipedia also says Saddleback is affiliated with SBC.

Ah, ok, thank you, that was an informative website
Aren’t All Baptists the Same?
No, all Baptists are not the same! Not by a long shot!

We obviously have common roots, a common heritage, but along the way things have happened, and some Baptists have shifted their principles and their practices. So in reality they are no longer the same.

What’s the Big Deal Between SBC and Independents?
Under the conservative leadership, many, many thousands of SBC-affiliated churches have signed up for the Rick Warren and Bill Hybels style of contemporary ministry. Literally thousands of them are now fully “contemporary” (rock bands, etc.).

Under the conservative leadership, Calvinism is making strong inroads.

The Southern Baptist Convention of 2008 has a growing problem with five-point Calvinism!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Yeah! Their kids will really learn how to do that while attending godless government schools, learning to think and reason godlessly in these schools, and then working on godless homework after school.

So?. Why are so many Baptist kids sitting in godless schools? ( Just wondering.)
