Bishop Hubbard to Celebrate Mass for Dissenting Gay/Lesbian Group (Catholic Caucus)
Catholic Vote ^ | July 27, 2011 | Thomas Peters

Posted on 07/28/2011 12:21:10 PM PDT by NYer

What a difference a bishop makes.

When the “Catholic” Association for Lesbian & Gay Ministry attempted to hold a fundraiser in a St. Paul-Minneapolis parish several months ago, Archbishop Niensted quickly put a stop to it.

When the same “Catholic” Association for Lesbian & Gay Ministry (CALGM) announces it will host its national conference in Albany, NY, Bishop Howard Hubbard agrees to celebrate Mass for them.

Bishop Hubbard turns 75 in a little over two years, but he seems intent on continuing to inflict pastoral damage on his diocese until he retires.

This is the same bishop who has publicly praised and gave Communion to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, approved the distribution of free needles by Catholic Charities to serial drug abusers, and through his position on the US Bishops’ committee on international justice and peace, puts Catholic endorsement behind horrible political proposals which will harm our fragile economy.

Bishop Hubbard’s association with the “Catholic” Association for Lesbian & Gay Ministry presents a scandal to members of his whole diocese, who are being dutifully informed of his activities in their parish bulletins (imagine having to explain this news item to your kids?). Numerous distressed Catholics from the diocese emailed me to alert me to this story. It’s not the first time they’ve found themselves in the position of trying to figure out what on earth their bishop is up to.

We need to keep praying for the Catholics of Albany that they will persevere until the time comes when they are granted better shepherds.

If you wish to contact Bishop Hubbard, you may do so (with charity) by emailing info@rcda.org.

UPDATE: Some folks in the comments are claiming I didn’t do enough research on CALGM. I just spent ten minutes more on this and here’s what I found (in addition to what I’ve posted on CALGM before):

Catholic Culture’s rating of the group’s website:

The blog “Queering the Church” would “happily endorse a retreat” led by CALGM. ‘Nuff said.

For another peak into what CALGM actually does and how it distorts Catholic teaching, read this woman’s experience.

As I’ve written before, groups and individuals that dissent from the Church’s teaching on these issues are smart enough to hide it from plain view. The real damage happens in the actual encounters and private sessions they host (where they are careful to exclude persons who actually agree with the Church’s teaching).

I think it says a lot about what they are attempting to do when they are forced to be deceptive about how they accomplish it.

When our bishop started making financial decisions the diocese did not like, the diocese responded by not giving him money. Instead we used the money we normally would have given to the church to purchase non-perishables for the church's soup kitchen and dipes and formula for the church's women's center. Our bishop has recently been moved to a different state. Perhaps Catholics in this bishop's diocese can respond in the same way. It is important to tithe, we just tithed in a more creative way.

Find someone in Albany, NY who has been involved in law enforcement for thirty years or more and ask him about “Mother Hubbard”.

Bishop Hubbard is the gift bestowed on us by Archbishop Jean Jadot - Still Proud Of Bishops He Gave U.S.. Among the other appointments made by Jadot's recommendations are: Bishop Walter Sullivan of Richmond, Va., Archbishop Rembert Weakiand of Milwaukee, and Roger Cardinal Mahony of Los Angeles - to name but a few. Other men who became bishops during Jadot's tenure in the United States include Rochester Bishop Matthew Clark and Cardinal Law.

In the 30+ years at the helm of the Albany and Rochester dioceses, Hubbard and Clark have decimated their dioceses. In the city where I reside, Hubbard closed 5 of their 6 parishes, even though some were solvent. He did not attend any of the "town hall" meetings he insisted be held. The reaction? Many of the catholics fled to a nearby Evangelical Church that now takes in $35,000/wk, thanks to their contributions.

We pray that Pope Benedict XVI lives long enough to appoint their successors. Whoever they may be, it will take decades to restore these diocese.

I urge all Catholics to pray for our Holy Father Pope Benedict.

I truly believe that God gave him to us to ...

Defend the Church

Defend Christendom

Defend Western Civilization

and to defend his sheep against wolves like Bishop Hubbard.

You would be amazed at the resourcefulness of devout catholics when faced with such a situation. They go underground, they lobby the Vatican (FWIU, the Vatican has a thick dossier on Hubbard but won't act unless he turns schismatic), and, like me, they join an Eastern Catholic Church. More importantly, they remain in communication and watch out for each other. Most importantly, they pray for the conversion of heart of their bishop, for the long life of their pope and for the catholics who wandered astray.

What a shame. What is he thinking?

I bet the same tv media who ignored the thousands, and thousands, of pro-family people, who rallied against same-sex “marriage” last Sunday, will give Bishop Hubbard plenty of coverage.

“When our bishop started making financial decisions the diocese did not like, the diocese responded by not giving him money.”

It’s a good idea, but in Bishop Hubbard’s diocese, if a parish doesn’t pay the Bishop’s Fund the required amount, the parish has to make it up, and most parishes are struggling as it is.

But isn’t Bishop Howard Hubbard part of ‘the Magisterium’, ‘the ultimate authority’, ‘wise and holy’ and ‘vetted pretty thoroughly’? He’s not practicing YOPIOUS, us he?

Dan, your duplicate comment on two threads conveys a misunderstanding of the Church and scriptural interpretation. Should the Bible be the final authority of Christianity or the Church? Christ stated that the Church, not Scripture should be the final authority: "And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the Church: but if he neglect to hear the Church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican." (Matthew 18:17 ) Christ did not state to refer to or consult Scripture for disputes and correction. He said to go to the Church as It is the final authority in Christianity. In addition, St. Paul states that the Church, not Scripture is "THE pillar and ground of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:15) Since the Church alone is mentioned as the pillar of truth, then It alone has the right to discern the truth and interpret Scripture. For if individuals could correctly interpret Scripture, then all interpretations would be exactly the same as there can only be one Spiritual Truth for the plural of the word "truth" never appears in Scripture.

The Church is Christ's bride (Ephesians 5:29) and has "no spot, wrinkle or blemish" (Ephesians 5:27). Christ also stated that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His Church (Matthew 16:18) so how can the Church commit error? Individual clergy may commit sins, even popes commit sins because in the Church there are both "weeds and wheat" (Matthew 13:30).

In its 2000 year history, despite a few bad popes, not one of them has erred on matters of faith or morals. This attests to the promises made by Christ to His Church.

This Religion Forum thread is labeled “Catholic Caucus” meaning if you are not currently, actively Catholic then do not post on this thread.
