The Beleaguered Christians: Campus Crusade drops Christ

Many faithful Christians feel that Campus Crusade for Christ’s announcement to drop Christ from their name is one more confirmation that there is a wholesale departure from the bedrock foundation of their faith. A woman recently asked me, “Where will this end?” Certainly, she is not alone in feeling overwhelmed and confused at the changes taking place today.

While I am not one who questions the motives of CCCI’s current leadership’s decision to drop “Christ” out of their name, I do question the wisdom of their timing. In a time when political correctness has run amuck and the name of Christ has been eliminated from many Christian organizations (like The Christian Children’s Fund who is now ChildFund International), the faithful feel that Campus Crusade’s decision is yet another rug pulled out from under them.

Having served on the staff of CCC in the ‘60’s, I’m quite certain thousands of former and current staff members (still know some) are in total shock. And Bill Bright would be rolling over in his grave if there were any truth to that old phrase.

Sign of the times...”in the end times.....”

I guess it’s on its way to Campus Crusade for the Progressive New World Order.

Back in the 1980s, many of the Campus Crusade for Christ people came over to the Orthodox Church after they started seeking the “original” church and reading church history. (I am Orthodox Christian myself, so see this as a good thing.) The particular movement I have heard about was the “Evangelical Orthodox Church” (EOC), which joined the Antiochian Orthodox Church diocese in the late 1980s. Maybe those who remained in CCFC then lost the positive influence of those who left?

We had supported CCC domestic missionaries at George Mason U. for many years - last year they announced they were leaving CCC for another ministry, and would only say it was due to an "amicable disagreement" with the CCC - now I'm wondering if they had sensed this coming.......
Thank you Jesus for pulling our friends out and planting them where you could better work through them.

This summer we learned about CCFC and their missions in Hungary. Hungarian society has greatly benefited from CCFC missionaries as their population converted from communism in the 90s. Great work . Witness this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVv0jH33nL4

Dropping Christ enables them to penetrate deeper into the darkness. Where is their lamp?

I once was a donor to CCFC. I will not be again. Let them get their money from the world that they so desperately wish to appease.

The silver lining to these outbursts of naked apostasy is that it makes it easier to know who to donate to and volunteer with. It used to be that every charity said it was "Christian".

Motive... God who knows in secret and surely knows the motive of CCCI: By dropping Christ from their nameplace it is proof that they are ashamed of the gospel of Christ For how else by removing the name of the Son of God, Christ, does God Almighty view someone? Are they more confident about the preaching of Christ crucified with His name hidden? Or are they more ashamed of the preaching of Christ crucified with His name displayed? For which action glorifies Christ: His name removed? My vote is in agreement with God's viewpoint on this matter: they are ashamed of the name of Christ.

In my dealings with Mormons, I often hear them say “well of course we are Christians, the church is named the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-Day Saints”. To which I respond having the name of Christ in the name of your organization doesn’t make you Christian.

That said, I have seen CCFC go downhill for many years, their presence at the colleges/universities I was at during Grad school and teaching was very watered down and I am wondering if this isn’t just a the latest sign of a long time problem.
