“one of my best friends suffers from Picks Disease (Frontotemporal Dementia) and he’s now in his late 30’s. He has a wife and a son that was born around the same time of his diagnosis (about 3 years ago). He’s has grown dramatically worse the past year and his wife had to put him in a facility. It’s really sad...he’s about half the age of most of the people in there. Between his wife, his parents, and his friends...he has almost daily visits. His wife is a rock.”

Wow, I have never even heard of this disease. How sad for him and his family. We can only have hope that their suffering has a greater purpose.

It is indeed taken out of context to the point that that saying doesn’t even exist in Scripture!! Rather Christ admonishes to judge with a righteous judgment — meaning judge others by the SAME measure with which you would be judged (i.e. don’t be a hypocrite).

What kind of man cheats on his wife while she’s dying from Alzheimer’s Disease?

What if the couple falls out of love with each other and are totally miserable? They should stay together regardless of any emotional pain?

So if you are being abused that does not mean you can get a divorce?

What is so horrible about divorce? Sure it’s sad but it can be a necessity.

Should our feelings dictate our behaviour?

What if the only way I can be happy with you is to treat you with great disrespect? Should I? Or should I submit to inherently right behaviour and treat you with the respect that you need as a human being?

What does that have to do with getting a divorce if things between a husband and a wife have gone sour? In this case our feelings need to dictate our behavior.Divorce is not a sin,nor is it wrong. Sometimes it’s the only thing.People should not have to remain married if things have gone wrong. Staying married when there is hate and animosity is wrong.

Why does G-d hate divorce? Would He want two people to stay together if things have gone wrong, like I pointed out to Jonty30? G-d doesn’t love divorce but He would not want people to remain in a miserable, loveless marriage. Sometimes things go wrong and people should not be forced to remain together.

Try smiling and being nice, maybe there won’t be so much hate and animosity.

Look you have to read the Bible to know what God has said. In Malachi He says “Do not treat the wife of your youth treacherously for I hate divorce.”

You cannot impose your own thoughts for God’s. “He would not want people to remain in a loveless marriage.” What tripe. Love is a verb, not a feeling.

Selfishness is the problem. The Bible also says to put the needs of others before your own. But the mantra of today’s hellish society is “What is in it for me me me me?

So, go see a psychologist, they will speak just like you did and there will be untold heartache and misery. Keep your vows and behave in accordance with God’s statutes and you will be well regarded and grow in wisdom and stature with God and man.

The choice is yours.

***What is so horrible about divorce? Sure it’s sad but it can be a necessity.***

I don’t know if you posted this to the right person because I agree that divorce can be necessary. My own mother was divorced three times (to men she never should’ve married) and I wouldn’t want her to be married to any of those men today.

There are valid reasons for a marriage to split.

But people give up *way* too easily. It’s not something that should be entered into lightly or taken apart without good reason.

I honestly believe that no-fault divorce has created it’s own problem.

If people knew that it was really difficult to get out of a marriage, perhaps they’d take more care before going in. Maybe we’d all be a little more selective when choosing our mates.

The issue of this tread was specifically this: Is it alright to divorce your spouse specifically because they are ill? Most of us agree that abandonment, adultery, abuse and addiction are all valid reasons to divorce a mate. Most of us agree that illness is not.

I think that a lot of it comes down to ‘willful’ intent. A mate that chooses drugs, chooses to abuse or chooses to cheat is breaking the covenant.

A mate that falls ill has no intention of hurting their spouse. They are innocent and should not be abandoned.

The marriage vows specifically state, “in sickness and in health.” Pat Robertson’s twisting of Alzheimers to ‘a kind of death’ is disingenuous and not something that should be taught by a Man of G-d.

I’m not married, and I’m not imposing my thoughts for G-d. According to Judaism there is nothing sinful about divorce;the verse you gave is not the only one pertaining to divorce. What I said is not tripe, thank you.Your response is tripe. As soon as I locate the example of another verse pertaining to divorce from the Hebrew Bible (NOT the Christian Bible),I will send it to you.

yeah yeah I know it’s fine and hunky dory to divorce in Judaism. Big deal. I believe in Judaism AND in Christianity. I don’t think you can understand Christianity without understanding Judaism. I am a Christian, not a Messianic Jewish person however. Roman Catholic to boot. So, nothing you came up with would be persuasive to me. In my belief system, you might get legally divorced but you are still in a one flesh covenant relationship marriage in the spiritual world. These things are for God to work out.

First they should repent of the sin of not loving one another.
