Presbyterian Church Accuses Companies of 'Non-Peaceful' Support of Israel

The Presbyterian Church USA (PC USA) has accused Caterpillar, HP and Motorola of supporting the Israeli government in a "non-peaceful way."

As a result of those claim, the Church has now indicated that it will divest of the companies' stock.

The Church has been trying to convince Caterpillar to cease its indirect engagement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for years, a PC USA representative wrote in a statement.

Caterpillar, a producer of mining equipment, has “profited from sales of its products to Israeli military and civilian authorities, including its D-9 bulldozers which are used to demolish Palestinian homes and construct settlements and Israeli-only roads on Palestinian land, acts deemed illegal under international law,” reads a statement by the Church's committee for dealing with investments, the Mission Responsibility Through Investment (MRTI).

According to the committee, Motorola Solutions provided communications equipment to the Israeli military, which was then used in military operations in the West Bank. These operations include the blockade of Gaza, MRTI said.

Hewlett-Packard is accused of profiting from the sales of specialized technology used in "invasive and unjust" scanning at checkpoints in the border wall constructed on the Palestinian territory, the committee declared.

HP also sells its hardware to the Israeli Navy, which supports the ongoing naval blockade of the Gaza Strip, MRTI has claimed.

Huh? AFAIK, Caterpillar basically just sells its tractors etc to various folks -- what they do with that after purchase is not Caterpillar's problem, imho

This is PCUSA correct? They are taking the denomination down in the name of liberalism.

yes. I really cannot figure out why they would go after Caterpillar, HP and Motorola. Ok, I can somewhat understand someone saying "we are peaceniks we don't support weapon manufacturers", but Caterpillars tractors are made as, well, farm equipment. if the Israelis find other uses, that's not Caterpillar's headache. Neither is it a headache for HP or Motorola

One can criticize Toyota for their trucks being so good that rebels in Africa use them or NBA because rebels in the Congo seem to wear their T-shirts.

Do Presbyterians also try to close Motels because their parisioners meet their lovers there?

Isn’t this the 27th time the PCUSA has divested from Caterpillar? What, do they speculate constantly, and issue a press release every time they sell?

I wonder if they’ll try to divest from Microsoft...they have big software development plants there!

In fact, they’d probably boycott anyone who’d support the anti-AIDS researchers who’d attempted to shut down the San Francisco bath houses.

(The gays would meet there and have orgies in the same bath water 24/7, responsible for spreading the AIDS virus. Health officials tried to shut the bath houses down when they recognized this, but “community organizers” went ballistic at the “homophobia.” They finally closed when their patrons were all dead or too sick to sodomize each other.)

It’s the darnedest thing. Every time they type up the minutes, they include Microsoft, but by the time they go to print them out, someone’s deleted Microsoft from the list. At the same time, Google keeps popping up. They’ve had to manually delete Google some 20 times now.

Why would a church own stock?

And Intel!

At least they are following in the footsteps of the renowned anti-Semite, John Calvin.

PCUSA vs Caterpillar will have the same outcome as Rachel Corrie vs Caterpillar.

I guess I’ll need to buy more products from and stock in Caterpillar, HP and Motorola. Thanks for letting me know of their pro-Israel positions, PCUSA! :)

I wonder how many tractors the presbyterian church purchases in a year?

I’m sure if they just cancelled their orders, they could get their message across. /s
