The Myth of the Personally Pro-Life Catholic
National Catholic Register ^ | 9-28-11 | Matt Archbold

Posted on 09/28/2011 1:40:52 PM PDT by marcbold

I was wondering something tonight in light of the news that Congress will be investigating Planned Parenthood. Are there really Catholics who are personally pro-life and publicly pro-choice? Is that an honest opinion? The answer, if you can call it that, came to me in the form of a question. Have I ever seen or heard of personally pro-life Catholics praying in front of abortion clinics?

Nope.

Have I seen personally pro-life Catholics pushing to hold Planned Parenthood or other abortionists to higher safety standards?

Nope.

But the truth is that to be pro-anything it can not be a passive stance. It must be active or it can’t be described as “pro,” can it?

In the political sphere, there’s plenty of so-called personally pro-life Catholics like Rudy Giuliani. He’s so personally pro-life that he’s donated to Planned Parenthood.

But it ain’t just Rudy. These names ring a bell? Kerry, Schwarzenegger, Dodd, Durban, Leahy, Mikulski, Pelosi, Delahunt, Capuano, Markey, Murkowski, Casey, Collins, McGovern, Meehan, Granholm, Sebelius, Pataki, Pelosi, Richardson, Cellucci, Cuomo, Kucinich, Rangel, and Biden. All “personally pro-life Catholics.” And there’s lots more. You ever hear any of them talk at length about abortion being the taking of a human life? Any of them? We see plenty of evidence for the publicly pro-choice part but little to back up the personally pro-life part...

WHAT?!?!
Perhaps someone needs to get out of his Kuybaya parish and come on over to where the traditional ones are. We have groups of people who do shifts at three different clinics by us. He can come on along and see it.

Being from NY I have met many. Most put their hand on their chest while they tell you this. You can mimic them as they do it and they won’t even notice.

I think you missed the point.

He was talking about the "personally pro-life but . . . " crowd -- the excuse-makers, the pseudo-Catholics who treat politics as a religion.

You'll never see them in front of an abortion clinic, unless they're taking a girlfriend or daughter in for an abortion. Because it's her choice, donchyaknow. / bitter sarcasm

Ooops! You’re correct!

I guess I’ve just had some Non-Catholic Pro-lifers tell me that you NEVER see Catholics in the trenches, when sometimes we are all that are there.

Gosh, I wonder where they were when all this was going on -

Seven priests praying the prayers of exorcism over an abortion mill in Illinois.

You can’t be Catholic and support abortion rights. Period.

Well then someone needs to announce that to Catholics, or tell them to leave if they don't?

All the Catholics I work, with barring none, believe abortion is aok and woman have a right to do with their body what they want. I had a supervisor get in my face when I opposed this group of ladies by stating how God sees the issue.

Damn. What kind of so called Catholics do you know?

It's been announced several times in Rome, by Bishops, and down the line.

My response to those that believe that is that they aren't Catholics. Period. I've said that to a couple of people and pissed them off. Too bad. It's murder for convenience, the worst kind. Out of sight and and out of mind.

But if these Catholics don’t believe abortion is against God and the church...just telling them they aren’t Catholic means nothing at all. They might get peo’d but then what....they remain in the church infecting other members with their beliefs...and why it continues to breed therough the church.

The exorcism prayers are a REALLY great idea!

That’s what we get told. It’s just a few priests that work the Life shifts.

The funny thing is, in our area the big abortion mills are manned by everyone and the little strip mall places are covered by the people saying Rosaries. Yet, it’s hinted that the Catholic rarely show up.

Go figure.
