Here’s an analogy which might somehow fit something.
For years I put off getting prescription bi-focals because I didn’t REALLY NEED them, and I could get by with WallyWorld reading glasses, which I wore at the end of my nose.
Well, financial demands shifted and now I have some very nice bi-focals.
But I’m having trouble breaking myself of the habit of wearing them down at the end of my nose and looking OVER the distance vision part.
The glasses are good, it’s me that’s messed up.
Yeah, I can see that analogy fitting. Part of why I am so focused on discipliing ex-Mormons who become Christians (and denomination doesn’t matter) is because those who leave ARE messed up, they are hurt, confused, in danger of losing their spouse and/or children, usually have lost all their friends, sometimes their job and their housing as well (which is what happened to me). Add to that having to relearn to not ‘keep their glasses at the end of their nose’ and it is a very real challenge.
When I left Mormonism, there was no one to help me through it, I had to wade through on my own. My pastor wasn’t any help because he didn’t understand. I try to be to other ex-mo’s what I would have liked when I left. My current project is writing a discipleship manual for ex-mo’s, a book/workbook of sorts to help them deal with the issues.
And that is part of the reason why I get so angry at the Mormon church (the leadership and the culture - not the members), their actions (like lying and whitewashing) cause a world of hurt for members who leave.
Reaganaut, Bless you for your work and ministry.
Oremites, these are very grave charges. Why do you not answer them?
They believe The Almighty was married? Huh?
