Would You Attend a Same-Sex Wedding? {ans by Joel Osteen}
Christian Post ^ | 18 Oct 2011 | R Albert Mohler

Posted on 10/18/2011 11:38:34 AM PDT by Cronos

Would you attend a same-sex wedding ceremony? That question was posed recently to Houston pastor Joel Osteen, and Osteen said that he would attend, if the wedding involved friends. This came just after Osteen indicated that he could not perform a same-sex marriage ceremony, since he believes that homosexuality is a sin.

I recently wrote about this exchange, suggesting that Osteen’s position is morally and theologically incoherent. As I said:

This is beyond mere incoherence. It is moral and theological nonsense. More than that, it is a massive statement of ministerial malpractice. . . . You cannot celebrate what you say you know to be sin. You cannot honestly say that same-sex marriage defies the law of God, and then join in the celebration of that ceremony.

In recent days, Uri Scaramanga of “Out of Ur” and Leadership magazine posed the question to readers, using my comments as a point of reference. The question: “Is Al Mohler right? Is attending a same-sex marriage ceremony the same as performing one? Is it ministerial malpractice? What would you do?”

The responses to that question are revealing. I did not, however, argue that attending a same-sex marriage ceremony is the same as performing one, I did say - and I repeat - that it is incoherent and inconsistent to refuse to perform a same-sex marriage ceremony, and then to attend one.

The practice of oral and anal sex results in cross-contamination and crazy microbiological zooiness, whether it’s done by heterosexuals or homosexuals. Yet you rarely hear even moral conservatives criticize heterosexual sodomy. I wonder why that is?

I would say they are specifically going after homosexuals because they are an easy target and mostly likely, not sitting in the pews putting $$$ in the collection plate.

The reason why homosexual "insame"-marriage is happening around the US is because heterosexuals perverted the institution in the first place. After No-Fault divorces were created, the "feces hit the fan". Add to the equation that we our are own god and you get

By the way there are plenty of biological reasons why God wants a heterosexual monogamous relationship even though several “chosen ones” had multiple wives and concubines (Paid a price for the lust though). Not sure why that is not explained loudly. It is not all about God commanding “this and that”, the rational explanation why God commands “this and that” is not being taught and reinforced.

good for you, it is time for all to stand on principles instead of being silent and cowardly

I would not go as in my mind there is no such thing, sham marriage it should be called.

HELL NO I WOULD NOT GO.

When I was up in Boston I met two homosexuals, got to know them and told them straight I ma against them having marriage, parades, near kids, .
One was offended and I told him I was offended by his offense.

The other turned to me and said, he agrees with me .

I thought he was joking and he said it again. Homosexuals do it for sex and that is it.

My fiancee’s best friend is an older lesbian woman. Salt of the Earth, conservative, handy-woman, etc. She was raised Catholic and votes Republican. She does not, however, believe that she should have any rights with her partner like a heterosexual couple should.

I look at her like many of the Liberal Jews out there: self-loathing but content with their lot, and apparently many homosexuals think that way. To them, it’s more of a burden to bear than a right to practice.

Agreed! The homosexual lobby is out in such force that it’s hard not to be hit with something ridiculous from them in day-to-day life.

When I was a kid (in the 80s), homosexuality was never discussed, mentioned, or even a curiosity for any of us. We did what kids do, and that’s that. Those who were gay stayed in the closet and were never outed.

Nowadays kids “think” they’re gay at 13, 14, 15 years old, so they “come out” thinking it’s going to help them. Then they’re bullied, made fun of, beat up, etc. all over their sexual “preference” that might actually be a socially forced idea upon them from the schools or the administration.

I would happily leave them alone if they just went back into the shadows and stayed out of the public spotlight. There are infinitely more important discussions to have than who is sleeping with whom.

Rationally speaking and regardless of whether it is the individuals choice or not, if God knows that someone He breaths life into is going to be a homosexual, why does He do it?

The strongest stance is to defeat the best-case scenario. Argue why it’s wrong for two men to live out their life in monogamous love, and you have defeated every possible other scenario at the same time. Arguing against the freakiest of freak shows is at best child’s play.

No. The strongest stance is to not have your hands tied by rules such as the one you are suggesting. There is no reason to limit a discussion about sexuality and its corruption to only the so-called best-case scenario of a monogamous homosexual relationship. It is important that people begin to learn that corruption breeds more corruption and that is exactly why we see so many highly corrupted forms of sexuality marching side by side with homosexual activists as pride festivals.

Homosexuality is a corruption of natural healthy sexuality. It takes the purpose of sexuality and perverts it. Once corruptions are accepted and even considered a virtuous thing then it will lead to more corruption. Thus if we are to accept someone marrying their same gender then why not accept multiple marriage partners? Or marriage to siblings? Or marriage to animals? Or why not accept public nudity as a right? Or pedophilia?

Corruption breeds more corruption.

If it were me, the answer would be NO. Even if it was a close friend or a family member. I will not partake in sacrilege.

Ouch, then FR's standard is pretty low! I don't know much, you ought to meet this friend of mine who was valedictorian at Dartmouth, he's a PhD AND an MD. Now that's a brainiac! I just plod along -- and if I was really smart I wish I could translate that in my career :(

I think it cheapens the argument to have to inject

you are correct. I brought that up because I assumed (and Eggs, please correct me if I am wrong) that Eggs had already heard the bit that homosexuality is against God's Word and that was not sufficient.

the argument with the "other injections" is to those who would say "God's word -- who cares?"

God knows all things, so He knows all of our difficulties, disorders and sins beforehand, just as He knows our talents, excellences and virtues.

Why is there anything rather than nothing? Why did He create *anything*? To show forth His glory.

Why did He create *us*? To know Him, love Him, and serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in the next.

You certainly have a smart mouth on you. He will probably outlive me, as a matter of fact. And the only reason we will share a plot is due to the depth of our platonic love for all of these 60 plus years. You can think that's weird if you want. And I can feel sorry for you that you can never understand the kind of love he and I have shared.

Actually folks, I'm beginning to regret having even posted on this thread. I seem to have upset a lot of people and for that I apologize.
