Good article. Not sure why they are portrayed as the ‘poor churchmice’. There are plenty of us poor churchmice that are neither progressive nor dissenting.
Maybe it means intellectually or spiritually poor ... or perhaps the headline writer (as opposed to the author) isn’t very clever.
In my experience, the more liberal people tend to be well-educated and comfortably well off, in part because they don’t have large families.
