I thought I had made that clear. But top-tier members of the nobility received special handling, even in the camps. The Nazis didn’t want to pay the political price that would have come with liquidating them, and highly influential and promient aristocrats continued to live and work on the “outside” throughout most of the war.

Better that they were sent to the camps rather than collaborating, as Edward did. Makes all the difference in my mind.
