The Purpose for Christmas Birth of Christ Jesus

Merry Christmas

Some seem to have forgotten why Jesus came, was born of a virgin, and what the purpose was for God to make this birth of His Son possible.

TOPICS: Apologetics; Theology
KEYWORDS: birth; salvation; son
The purpose for the Christmas birth of Christ Jesus is well summarized in Galatians 4:4-5

But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem then that were under that law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

That is a full summary of why God sent His Son. When we celebrate the birth of Jesus - we must need to celebrate that when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem then that were under that law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

People need to remember the greater purpose for why Jesus was born. It's much more than simply a baby in a manger - but Galatians 4:4-5 nails it down well for us to celebrate on in addition to His birth.

That, and the birth of Mithra, born of a virgin, in a stable/cave, was already established on 25 December.

Shepherds tending their flocks by night would have been in the Fall. Spring lambing would have kept the flocks closer to home.

25th Dec was supposedly natalis Invicti [Birth of the Unconquerable (Sun)], held on 25 December, was a general festival of the Sun, and not specific to Mithra

I say supposedly because the ONLY mention of this is in the Chronography of 354 and there is no evidence that this predates Christmas celebrated on that day

Besides, the celebration of Christmas on 25 Dec dates at least to 386 AD when John Chrysostom preached it. In the East it was and is celebrated on 6 Jan

Early Christians (at least if one reads Tertullian and Origen) did not hold it at the same level we do know.

Also, the first evidence of the celebration is from Egypt, hardly a Mithraic culture.

Redemption—aint it funny how a child separated from their parent can know the meaning of the term far better than we
adults led away from our Father. How sad that those separated so soon are taught to build a new construct to survive the
separation —and ignore the innate longing for the Fathers touch -the comfort of His outstretched arms. How terrible too many are taught not to read the beautiful /comforting words of Life reflected in the terms of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,Gods son and our Savior. Galations 4:4-5 says it all so very well.

We are so fighting a losing battle. No one wants to hear the Truth, no one cares. Their argument, sure the Christmas tree may be the devil's phallic shaft but that's not how I think of it, comes out every time as their best argument.

Guess what? It's not what we think about anything, it's about what God thinks about it that is important. Scripture after scripture in the Old Testament commands God's people to NOT TOUCH any abominable idol or way of the pagans. But oh no...here we are dragging the devil's shaft into our houses and putting a manger under it. How blasphemous. But don't bother me with the truth, it interrupts my comfort zone religious experience.

I shouldn't even attempt to write about this. Only God's judgment, just as it fell on Israel for doing what we are doing now...when it falls on these people, only then will they cry out for Him and WHAT HE WANTS.

Also a symbol that God is faithful and trustworthy - in the Old Testament He told us that he, in setting up the New Covenant, would forgive our wickedness and recognize our sins no more. What a beautiful and humble attitude for the Creator, God Almighty, Our Abba Father, to take with His wayward children.

Exactly. Simple logic shows that it was impossible for Jesus to have been born in late December. For example, the shepherds don’t keep their flocks out that late in the year. It is just too cold.

There is a some circumstantial evidence in Scripture that Jesus was actually born around the fall Holy Days.

Is not the climate of the Holy Land is much like that of southern California, in regards to the fall and winter since both what is now Israel and southern CA, USA are in the same parallels?

September 26th: The Feast of Booths, when God moved into a human tabernacle. Mary conceived nine months earlier, on Hanukkah, when light entered the temple.

Fred Coulter, in his excellent Harmony of the Gospels, shows that because Talmudic historians know when Zacharias would have served his ‘course’ or shift at the Temple, we can know he was working the 9th and 10th weeks from the beginning of the (Jewish) year. This would have been during the time when Pentecost was observed (a fitting coincidence).

By following the very plain facts in Scripture, Coulter shows that Jesus must have been born sometime during a one-week window of time that ran from Tishri 1 to Tishri 8. The 1st of Tishri of course is the Feast of Trumpets.

You are welcome to put any meaning on Christmas that you want.

I hope you enjoy your Christmas, and in particular, listen to “White Christmas” knowing that it was written by Irving Berlin, a Jew, who as a child was regularly invited to celebrate Christmas with an Irish family down the street.

I hope we can all celebrate different holidays, and not let that get in the way of happiness and cooperation during the holidays, or in the rest of the year.

that's very nice...thank you. Coming from where I dwell I take all the kindness I can get. Sometimes I get extremely discouraged but then I get a random encouragement from a brother or a sister. I am highly persecuted. If you would like to see why go to my web site. I wrote a book. I wrote a book about what the actual Gospel was Jesus/Yahshua taught. It is NOT the gospel the church teaches.

I will be sure to check that out. We have been fighting the same battle here and I know how difficult it is. You lose a lot of friends standing for Christ, but once you know Him, what else can you do? I’m not usually so sentimental, but your post said exactly what I’ve been telling people.
