Correction for post number 19, “recording on his (the monk’s) smart phone.”
“Could this be one of the factors why the Vatican wants to take over the shrines?”
Sure. And money. They charge tourist to get in.
I really don’t care who takes charge of the key Christian shrines; I would like someone to — they are disorganized and hate each other, so important historical places, very important to lots of good people, are going down hill.
I do have an issue with some of the Jewish areas that were taken over by Christian or muslim invaders being controlled by foreign powers. There is a delicate balance of interest to be reached here.
And, I do have a problem with EVERY little podunk former church (or shul or whater) being a not-to-be-disturbed- shrine -— there are just so many, and real estate is at such a premium (and so poltiical) that give-and-take by all sides has to occur.
There is an Armenian Catholic Church, but the main Armenian Church is Non-Chalcaedonian.
Armenian Orthodox are not Catholic either. Nor are Copts, Ethiopians, Syrians, Assyrians, or Indian Jacobites. There are small Catholic churches from all these groups who are in union with Rome but the main churches of all these groups are either Calcaedonian Orthodox, Non-Chalcaedonian, or Non-Ephesine (Nestorian).
