The best background on Mormonism is a movie made in the early 80s called the God Makers...don’t know if any copies are still out there, but worth checking out....
For the most part you are right, but there are a few issues with the Godmakers (minor ones).
There are two movies that I recommend for anyone leaving Mormonism or thinking about it. Both are very clear analogies (not intentional) of Mormonism and the discovery that everything you believe is a lie.
The first is the original Stepford Wives and the Second is “Dark City”
