A German Catholic priest has admitted 280 counts of sexual abuse involving three boys over almost a decade, the BBC reported. About 2,800 pornographic images -- including several of his victims -- were found on the priest's computer.

Named only as Andreas L, the priest, 46, told a court in Braunschweig he did not think he was doing harm.

This is obviously a Church matter that should never have been published. Let them do an internal investigation, send him to another parish, give him counseling and support and check back on him in a couple of decades to see if that worked. Remember the Church has Tradition on its side and we should let well enough alone.

Wow, from the headline, I thought there were 280 kids abused... not three. Still, I sure hope he gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and that the diocese moves quickly to investigate any other possible fiends out there: They do tend to establish social contacts among themselves.

Further, I hope there’s proper investigation as to whether the diocese took all reasonable steps after the mother complained of an “improperly close relationship.” You can’t exactly fire a priest, just because someone is leery of him being a little friendly to a child. (And no, you can’t drive someone into lonely destitution on someone’s vibe). But you certainly can investigate.
