I know how you feel. I got overdosed on the video of starving, desparate children a while back.
Those children aren't living in a vacuum. They have families, extended and immediate; they have both village and tribal ties; they have a local and "federal" government, however dysfunctional all those entities are.
Those countries DO have money and there ARE people there living good - luxurious lives. There IS money there and the desparate children we see AREN'T getting any help, it seems.
I WOULD like to see our government PRESSURE those well-off and wealthy people there in all those countries to HELP their own. They can! It would be nice to hear if any do.
Am I being unreasonable in questioning like that?
All I can say is I watched the Haitian people show more constraint and dignity then our own folk after Katrina. I admired the way they handled themselves in the most horrific conditions. In contrast those (many) in new Orleans could have left. They had ample warning. They allowed themselves to be herded like sheep to a death camp(dome). Then they blamed everyone but themselves.
The Haitian government has always been corrupt. Not sure how to change that. Its the poorest country in the western hemisphere.
