Montanism is the early foundations that later charismatic movements (most notably in the 20th Century - Pentecostalism) are based.

Montanus, at his baptism supposedly spoke in tongues and began prophesying - He claimed that the “Paraclete - the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus was giving utterance through him.

One semi-positive aspect was a focus on moral living at a time when such standards were falling.

Tertullian became a Montanist giving some “weight” to the movement. Some writers claim that Montanism had little long-term or lasting effect on the church. Tell that to the Charismatics all across TV and radio, and in Charismatic churches across the world (particularly growing in Africa, Asia, and Central America).
