Jesus reprimanded him, and told him to butt out.
I had this idea about the real motivations of so called “justice advocates” and I wanted some feed back to see if my ideas and feelings concerning many of them have any merit. I know not all such folks are evil at heart, and certainly our Lord has commanded us to be charitable. Yet I have in memory several such folk, one of whom was narrating and hosting a video shown in church, speaking very sneeringly of “rich American Christians”. I also see the continuing assaults on churches by so called “ do-gooders” who have decidedly secular motivations, saying you haven’t donated enough, you don’t care for minorities, you need to be more “missional”, yada, yada.
John 12:1-8 for full story and context!
1Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. 3Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. 4Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, 5Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 6This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. 7Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 8For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
Verses 7 and verse 8 are the killer verses for the biggest point I was emphasizing was that it was Judas Iscariot, the “social INjustice” accuser “that betrayed Jesus. I have the sense that many of these “social advocates” are working in ways that betray the faith of the churches they “serve” or wished to be “served by” as well!
