The Pope should refuse to absolve this sins if he doesn’t agree to dismantle his regime.

Castro was once a devout Catholic, before he apostatized. I remember hearing how humble he was after saving the life of a drowning priest when he was 18.

The reason this isn’t making news here is because the Commie Leftists in the newsrooms are fit to be tied that their hero is finding religion again. Fidel’s confession will be a week long event if he is being truthful.

I’d love to hear Ron Kuby’s (whose mommy is a Commie) reaction to this afterwards.

Buying a ticket on the ark, huh?

Ahmadinejad must be disappointed. Didn't he try to convert Castro to islam a few years back?

When JP II visited Cuba, I suspected that something like this might happen. Castro was surprisingly respectful, and it was somewhat astonishing that he ever agreed to the visit.

But not until he has decided the end is coming for him, evidently.

God is concerned only with the salvation of the soul. Naturally He would prefer it be early in the day, but even if it takes place one minute to Midnight, the angels rejoice, and so should we.

We have to hate the sin, but love the sinner.

As difficult as it may be personally, I intend to pray sincerely for Fidel Castro’s salvation.

**turned to God for solace.**

This happens with many lapsed Catholics as they approach death. They realize that the only way for them at that point in their life is to be reconciled with Jesus.

We probably won’t be privy to his private discussions. But we would know a lot about the genuineness of his conversion by the nature of what he has to say about it.

If he knows he needs Christ, does he then accept that Cuba also needs Jesus Christ? Does he recognize that his life’s project, separate from Christ, could only bring misery? Does he understand that his legacy, his attempt to banish Christ from Cuba is fifty years of misery for his people?

When you accept Christ one of the first things you must do and want to do is profess it openly. If he is genuine that is one of the things he will do. So doing he undermines everything his regime stands for. If he can’t do it, we will have our answer.

Kings can be saved. Not every king will have that kind of humility, though, even facing the end. Castro was King of Cuba for fifty years but even kings die and face judgement. He faces a dilemma; if he professes Christ and does so openly and humbly he admits his entire kingship was illegitimate but he saves his soul. If he tries to save his place in history, he forfeits his soul.

Fidel Castro will be received back into the communion of the Roman Catholic Church ...

The 'Old Commie' finally found his Foxhole.

The key point will be what sort of PENANCE Pope Benedict XVI assigns Castro for a Papal Absolution of all sins.

If the penitent fails to complete the penance assigned by the priest, then the absolution is of no merit and is null and void.

For example, a murderer goes to confession and seeks absolution from the priest for the sin of murder. What penance should the priest assign? Answer: Turn yourself in to the civil authorities and accept the civil consequences for the crime of murder.

So how is he going to get around the mass murdering he (Castro) in the early 60’s cleaning out the undesirable of his new utopia?

1st John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Imperfect contrition yes, but he obviously is a believer, which is good - he is afraid of hell. I just wonder what sort of penance he is willing to do??? He has so much blood on his hands. If he is truly repentant, he will free those poor Cubans. For this I pray!!!
