Wuerl seems to me to be taking on the role of diplomat with respect to this matter rather than that of leader. He's supposed to be "a fool for Christ," and IMHO, he is not.
If I were an Archbishop in the U.S., I would summarily deny Communion to any politician who supported abortion, and I would make it public.
