20 Catholic (and Christian) Institutions Opposing Obama/HHS Mandate

My list of bishops who have publicly condemned the Obama/HHS mandate is now at 171 (representing almost 95% of Catholic dioceses). Only 4 bishops have yet to issue statements — and I expect they will shortly!

Now I’d like to begin compiling a list of Catholic (and Christian) institutions who have said publicly they will fight or oppose the mandate.

A few ground-rules:

• I’m only going to include institutions that have issued public statements online or a statement to the press which is available online.
• Please do not email me additions — submit them in the comments instead (I don’t want to be inundated by emails related to this post!). I will be regularly checking the comments for updates.
• Please triple check that an institution you want to include is not already posted here or in the comments.

The Honor Roll (I’ll figure out how to order these once the list has grown):

• 2. Belmont Abbey College – filed lawsuit
• 3. Colorado Christian University (nondenominational) – filed lawsuit

• 6. Ave Maria University in Naples, FL – considering legal options, “will not comply”
• 7-10: Aquinas College in Nashville, TN (joined by three other Dominican schools) – issued statement
• 11. University of Dallas in Dallas, TX – issued statement
• 12. Priests for Life in Staten Island, NY – filed lawsuit
• 13. Nashville Dominican Sisters in Nashville, TN – issued statement
• 14. Mount St. Mary’s University and Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD – issued statement
• 15. Notre Dame University in South Bend, IN – issued statement
• 16. Benedictine College in Atchison, KS – issued statement
• 17. Catholic University of America in Washington, DC – issued statement to the press
• 18. Catholic Health Association – issued statement
• 19. Catholic Charities, USA – issued statement
• 20. Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities – issued statement

Good to see Catholic universities leading the charge on this!

It would be helpful if someone could help me determine the number of employees at these institutions (to calculate the potential monetary fine/penality they would face for not complying with the mandate). Please include this tally in the comments — thanks!

This Administration cleverly used a Trojan Horse called "health care reform," and now "women's health," in its attempt to blatantly attack the First Amendment's specific protection for the free exercise of religious belief.

Now, in the case of the prohibition on Chaplains, they are attacking another prong of that Amendment--freedom of speech.

Enough already! During the Revolutionary Period, the pulpit in America was resounding with the ideas of liberty, motivating "the People" to assert their Creator-endowed rights, and to reject the ideas of tyranny, no matter how they were cloaked.

They have been late to the battle of late, but now, they have been awakened.

In this particular case, the assault has come on just one doctrinal belief of one major faith group. Rest assured, though, that people of faith from all sects will be able to discern that if the assault can be framed as "women's health and contraception" today, it can be against any number of deeply-held beliefs and practices tomorrow.

Ignorant—they have been cheated; asleep—they have been surprised; divided—the yoke has been forced upon them. But what is the lesson? ... the people ought to be enlightened, to be awakened, to be united, that after establishing a government, they should watch over it ... IMO if Obama wins this battle, his next edict will take away the non-profit tax status away from Christian colleges adoption agencies, hospitals and anything else connected with church’s and not actually a Church.

I have no sympathy for the Catholic institutions who STUPIDLY supported B. Hussein in 2008. Did they really expect him to be honest? Geez....what a bunch of maroons.

Here's my take on what will happen (like anyone cares what I think...LOL)

If public pressure / opinions persist for 3 or 4 more days, Pope obama will call a prime time press conference on all the MSM (spelled C-O-M-M-U-N-I-S-T) networks and say something like this:

THIS MORNING, it came to my attention that a FEW people in the country are upset about the health care mandate that was announced last week by HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. Today I am ordering her to retract that provision immediately. Keep in mind, I had nothing to do with her decision to issue the mandate. As a Christian, and I am a Christain...I even interrupted my vacation to go to Church last JUNE....uh...uh...hum....uh,,,,maybe it was my JULY vacation...or....uh.... maybe the one in AUGUST.....no matter it was one of those last year when I wasn't playing golf. God even comes to me for guidance every couple of days, so that goes to show you that I'm a Christian. And, did I say that Kathleen did that on her own and that I had nothing to do with her decision? All you folks remember on election day that I stood up for you. I had nothing to do with her decision. She did it on her own.

Now, I want to tell you that I had nothing to do with her decision. But, because she normally does such a good job, I'm authorizing a 20% pay raise for her and a 1 % pay raise for all federal HHS employees who work for her. We've got to ensure we keep the wealth shared evenly throughout the country and government. AND, I realize that the salaries for Secretaries of Federal Agency's are set in stone by federal law, but I'm taking it on my own to go around Congress on this to give her the raise. I'm not going to let Congress throw road blocks in the way of running the country. Screw the Constitution....Er...uh...uh...uh ..I mean a screw just fell out of my podium. In closing, I want to say that I had nothing to do with the mandate. It was all Kathleen's idea.

Why didn’t you oppose TOTALITARIANCARE from the get-go?

Many (not all) of the names on the list of twenty are the "usual [conservative] suspects," who had no use for Obama or Deathcare from the beginning. I submit that you should be congratulating the few names on the list who've actually reversed their position (Notre Dame being the most prominent) for seeing the light, rather than carping at all of them indiscrimately.
