“Noticed 60 Minutes tonight was going to focus on abuse in the Catholic church. Coincidence, right?”

I started an earlier thread, with just that question. Obviously we live in a post-ANG document world....

well, I am more interested in studying the delegates that were selected at the caucus, rather than the straw poll. I am planning ahead to ‘16.

Yes, This is against Christianity. Obama is trying to divide us but we are the Body of Christ here on earth. His initial agenda probably includes taking over all the Catholic hospitals and nursing homes, schools etc. We know who wins in the end.

Perhaps there is an asteroid with Obama’s name on it now, lol.

narses, I haven’t seen it. New England is gospel-parched. I am going exploring, looking for new parishes. I frequent about 15 parishes in my area. And travel to NH ... went to Maine ... barely a peep. The priests are DEMS. I need to expand my world to new parishes and drop some of the 15 from my list. I am praying for a solution, cause in the areas where we need to beat the DEMS (the Northeast), the pro-family movement is weakest.

I posted this in another thread:
I was out-of-town yesterday visiting a parish, and the Monsignor told us to stand down, that it is not a big deal and “everything will be worked out wonderfully.” We’ve been reduced to a situation where the only pastoral leadership in Conn is coming from Linda McMahon. Get me out of here.

I just clicked off the sign up and didn’t have any problems aside from my usual difficulty in copy/paste on this older pc. I do have Norton 360 on a 7 year old windows system using run of the mill browser. Is your internet provider on Obama’s and Planned Parenthood’s side of this issue? I expect we will see all sorts of hijinks over the coming months.

Practicing Catholics care and vote and many C & E Catholics are working weekends or have other issues, not that I am excusing them - just recognizing their situations are often difficult on many levels...I think many will turn out to vote on this. Even the democrats I know have had it with Obama. I can’t imagine them voting for him unless they fear they would lose their job by doing so. Most fear they would lose their job if he stays in office.

If you identitfy with Christ’s message in any way, if you identitfy with God’s Word and the Prophets of the Old Testament this moment asks are you a Man of God or are you not, are you a Woman of God or are you not?

Got it. Bishop Fulton J. Sheen would have something to say.

Too many Catholics and their priests are Democrats first, Catholics second. Why does the Pope not condemn such obvious apostasy?

And a *hungry* giant too, I’ll bet! You guys are probably dying for a juicy steak or hamburger, with `Lent’ and all.

Why can’t you all ride herd on people like Pelosi, Kennedy, et al., who act like pagans, the forces behind abortion, birth control, ad nauseum?

You still do that `bell, book and candle’ stuff, right? But, no, they still confess their sins, receive absolution, and so forth and so on. Go figger.

As far as I know the Pope does speak to this. Of course I wouldn’t expect the MSM to always report on it though.

I haven't seen it either here in the Philly area. I would speculate that at least 75 to 80 percent of the Mass attenders in my parish wouldn't vote Dem anyway and of the Dem voters, this is a non issue. In other words, the outraged Catholics were already outraged by the Dems. The contraception mandate has changed nothing.

Westbrook:

Do you have some evidence that Miss Fluke claims to be Catholic? Slick Willy went to Georgetown and he is no Catholic and never claimed to be. I suspect that a majority of Georgetown Law School students are not Catholic.

We Catholics have enough to bear with the likes of Pelosi, Biden, Kerry, Rosa DeLauro, Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, anything named Kennedy, Susan Collins, Patrick Leahy, Kathleen Sebelius, Dick Durbin, Pat Quinn, Jerry Brown, Tom Harkin, Jim Moran, Tom Perriello, Tim Kaine, Mario Cuomo, Anthony Cuomo, and so many, many others of their self-excommunicated ilk. We don't need to collect questionables like Miss Fluke.

At least the Vatican has been making a point of appointing mostly Catholics as bishops lately.

Just what are you expecting by way of public excommunication? The government gets fussy nowadays if we ask that they be burned at the stake. In medieval times, there used to be some colorful but nonviolent ceremonies usually performed at a cathedral by a bishop in full regalia snuffing out candles to represent the souls of the excommunicated but imagine that being televised on 60 Minutes.

In this era, there are various other methods. The primary one is that those who commit mortal sin and are unrepentant (have not confessed and received forgiveness) are automatically excommunicated (are not to receive the Holy Eucharist under penalty of further mortal sin) until they confess and receive forgiveness. Dying in such a state of sin sends the unrepentant to eternal damnation which seems likely to be even more serious than being burned at the stake. There are specific sins in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (including material cooperation with abortion) which carry an automatic excommunication (called a latae sententiae excommunication).

Personally, I think that a weekly television series produced by Church officials featuring some ceremonial and publicly declaring the excommunication of the miscreants of the week would make for great ratings and very praiseworthy results but that is above my pay grade as a mere member in the pews. Narration or even action by a Fulton Sheen type would be nice. He had a sense of dramatic timing and a genuine feel for the medium of television.

EXCOMMUNICATION! could be the ultimate reality show. The pedestrian automatic kind of excommunication is less dramatic, less emotionally satisfying but every bit as effective as to the miscreant.

St. Stanislaus, corner of State Street and Eld Street, New Haven, every Sunday afternoon at 2 PM: the Mass of your ancestors and mine and in communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Enjoy! It is worth the drive. Also check Una Voce for Connecticut Tridentine Masses.

For Novus Ordo Masses (if one must) find Father Donald French in the New Haven area. Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury is highly unlikely to be liberal. Find Father Paul Check in the Bridgeport Diocese. I have not been to St. Mary's in New Haven in more than ten years, but it was generally reasonably conservative since you and I were both regulars there. There are others.

As to mere politics, unless we can achieve ABR, there is no point in ABO. R=O=R=O=R=O, etc. Rule or ruin! Also remember: politics is the province of the laity.

I’m a woman of God but I will watch and see before I beccome inolved any more than I already am....other times catholics have had other calls but their people don’t repond to the call sufficient to do more than fundraising for their cause....so wait and see is just wise.
