PING!
Much credit should go to Empress Theodora I, who in the face of a corrupt senate and the violent Nika riots, that had destroyed half of Constantinople, refused to flee from the city, and demanded that force be met with force.
Because of her courage in demanding the annihilation of the radicals, the Christian Roman Empire and much of Christianity continued for several hundred more years before again being under severe threat.
A great lesson to other nations as well about the menace of radicals who foment destruction in their pursuit of power.
Thanks for posting.
bump for the Holy Icons and to read later. Fr Stephen is a very good writer. I remember when he converted to Orthodoxy.
****In the better than 16 years or more that I have known Archbishop DMITRI of Dallas (my retired Archbishop), I have heard him warn repeatedly that the greatest danger in the modern world is the attack on man as the image of God. That God became man in order to unite man to God is the only sure Divine underwriting of human worth. We have value because of the image we bear.****
What a beautiful insight from this holy man. It is so true.
Secularism would have us believe that man is just another animal in creation, and a destructive one at that.
I will speak to my confirmation kids about this tonight. They need to be reminded constantly that they are precious in the sight of God, made in His image and created to have a share in heavenly glory.
