I’m as puzzled as you are about the meaning of “the social Gospel”. WTH? I’m going cross-eyed trying to wrap my little brain around that one ;)

He responded by saying that his “first real job out of college was working with churches in low-income communities, trying to make sure that the social Gospel was made real.”

Which, BTW, is very much what one would expect to hear from someone with Barry 0's liberal protestant background.

Trampling all over Roman Catholic scruples. Eh. "Clinging to their Bible and their guns." crack. Eh. No matter.

Here is some news for ObaMao (although I'm sure he knows it): Hate whitey churches who preach social gospel are quite a different animal than most churches who at least try to preach the actual gospel of Jesus Christ.

Excepting, of course, some mainline sects who have been taken over by the left and view Jesus as nothing more than a generic logo to help sell their defective product.

...while soaking up the words and wisdom of 'Rev' Jeremiah Wright

"puzzled" adjective = perplexed, beaten, confused, baffled, lost, stuck, stumped, doubtful, at sea, bewildered, mixed up, at a loss, mystified, clueless, nonplussed, flummoxed, in a fog, without a clue ■ Example: Scientists remain puzzled by the question, whether Barack Obama is human, some sort of reptile hatched from an egg or a space alien..

"trying to make sure that the social Gospel was made real.”"

What the hell does that mean?

That's the kind of gobbledy-gook you don't want to hear from a sitting president

it is a mixture of Robin Hood and Karl Marx, hiding behind Jesus

Remember, Robin Hood took from the overly oppressive government and returned the money to the tax payers.

It is double speak. Everything obama says is for deceptive purposes. His ignorant worshippers can call him “christian” (small c) because he utters these words.

My first thought. Funny how no one ever asks a follow-up question regarding a definition of that term.

What does “social Gospel” mean? Is that a perversion of Gospel in the same manner “social justice” is a perversion of justice?

So he was an honest to gosh church worker, eh? Like Wright’s church?

“I think that the proper role here is to recognize that faith-based groups can do a lot of good out there, that that informs our values and who we are as a people.”

Mindless drivel. He used an entire lungful of air to say nothing at all.

“when we start using religion as a bludgeon in politics, when we start questioning other people’s faith, when we start using religion to divide instead of bring the country together.”

“in this world, we’re always trying to deal with the compromises, the accommodations that are required in a big, messy democracy."

"However, a nice streamlined Sharia state? NOW we're talking!"

Hint: The real Gospel was written by followers of Jesus Christ, not by a man who calls religion "the opiate of the masses". Those of us who follow God believe in a social mission from God, but it's not Obama's mission from Karl Marx.

I think it was Frances Schaeffer who talked about those that use “God” words to try to affect a conversation and to beware of them.

You are right, it is double speak, but to me actions speak louder than words and his actions run the gambit between being very hostile to indifferent toward Christianity.

“In short, it is a mixture of Robin Hood and Karl Marx, hiding behind Jesus.”...........

Poor Robin Hood. Because we look at him as taking from the rich and giving to the poor, he is lumped in with Karl Marx.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Robin Hood returned the peasant’s money to them after greedy King John and his henchmen over taxed the peasants. Robin Hood “redistributed the tax money back to its rightful owners after it had been confiscated by the evil government of the king.
