The press has been stuck on the “treated like a rock star” simile for years. But really, when was the last time you saw 10,000 people line up on the street to see a rock star?
You are so right! The field only holds 10,000 and it is filled to capacity. Looking over the crowd, one can see how poor they are. Did I hear the bishop say that “this” (the construction of altar and backdrop and all the preparations made for tonight’s liturgy, is their gift? It reminded me of the woman who went to pray at the temple in Jerusalem and gave all she had ... one penny. What a gift to these people to have the pope visit them!
Off topic , but I remember the last time the Pope went Cuba . We at FR were watching as all media were in Cuba , pretending Monica didn’t excist . Suddenly , ABC called Sam Donaldson back to D.C. right in the middle of the Popes’ visit . That was when we knew they could not ignore it any longer . Oh , the rest of the press followed .
