The sequel, World Without End, was also pretty good. It told of the same town and cathedral 200 years after the cathedral was built (first book). I also read Fall of Giants. That is the first of what Follett calls his Century Trilogy and covers WWI. Though, I enjoyed much of it from a historical perspective, but it plod along after a short while and I was put off by the sanctimonious liberalism. He spends quite a bit of the book telling us how great socialism is for the downtrodden Welsh miners.

His “Eye of the Needle” is an excellent WWII spy novel.

Thanks, Civ
Fascinating! Monastic orders and architecture in medieval Europe are complex and astonishing.
