My father in law, the beloved great grandfather of our 9 grand children, died a few hours ago. As a Catholic it pains me to ask for selfish prayers. But screw that, this is a guy I loved and respected more than you can imagine. He was a father to me in truth, not just a courtesy father borrowed from my wife.
Please help us send him home. He wasn't what you would call the most devout person on the planet, but he believed in God and right. He lived right.
I'll not see him in purgatory.
Thank you.
One of the quickest way to release souls from purgatory is through having Masses said for them. I also do Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday, and I will pray for him then, also, which is a great way to pray for the poor souls.
A message sent up.
I’m sorry to hear this. Death of such a great man who meant so much to you will be hard. Sounds like a great role model for his grandchildren and their children. A big loss. Jesus already greeted him with a welcome Home hug. As is written, absent from the body, present with The Lord.
I never knew my grandfathers. Count yourself blessed. I grieve with you, FRiend.

Prayer for your great grandfather made, EC.
2 Cor 5:6-8
"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight)"
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

My condolences to you and your family on the death of your Grandfather. I will pray for his soul and for the healing of those he left behind. Be assured that the love he received in this life will accompany him on his journey in the afterlife. When you are emotionally able to do so, talk to him as if he were alive and express that love you felt for him. They hear us. God bless.
He had the same job as me in the army when he was young. I am playing our unit song - wasn’t his, but he knows it.

Prayers for your grandfather and for you as you grieve.
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.
Prayers for your grandfather and for you as you grieve.

Me neither. What a blessing to have grandparents or even to have met them. Especially how EnglishCon described his grandfather through marriage.
God bless him and God bless you, in your profound grief and sadness.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.
I will pray for his sweet soul and for comfort for your family.
May God bless and keep you all.
Prayers for God’s blessings on all.
In 1943, he walked through nearly 600 miles of hostile territory. Got to his fathers unit who were hiding in the hills, grabbed a rifle and did the same job as I did 40 years later.
His soul is not clan - no more than mine is - but he did good.
More connections, yet there are no coincidences. I'm playing it for him now.
Prayers up for your dear father in law said. He will be fine I am certain. Prayers to for you and your family during this time of loss.
clan should be clean. Call that a Freudian slip.
The Handbook of Indulgences Norms and Grants.
#91 A >plenary indulgence which is applicable only to the souls in purgatory is granted the Christian faithful who devoutly visit a church or an oratory on All Souls Day.
This indulgence can be obtained either on the day mentioned above or, with the consent of the ordinary, on the preceding or following Sunday or on the solemnity of All Saints.
(...)
According to norm 16 of the apostolic constitution, this visit is to include the ‘recitation of the Lord’s Prayer and the Creed (Pater and Credo).
Norms for Indulgences
#3 No one gaining an indulgence may apply it to other living persons.
#4 Both partial and plenary indulgences can >always be applied to the dead as suffrages.
_______________________
Me: I heard a Bishop say the Church gives out all these indulgences because God wants to make it easy to get into Heaven.
+Indulgences depend on the Heart; God makes both available.
Thank you, dear FRiend,
It is the anthem for those of us who do what is not normally acceptable. Poppa killed 175 people by the time he was 17.
He deserves our anthem.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord, and may perpetual Light shine upon him.
Prayers up for you and your family.
I will pray a Chaplet of Devine Mercy for him tonight.
http://thedivinemercy.org/message/devotions/chaplethistory.php
Encourage souls to say the Chaplet which I have given you (1541). Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy at the hour of death (687). When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the Merciful Savior (1541). Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this Chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy (687). I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy (687). Through the Chaplet you will obtain everything, if what you ask for is compatible with My will. (1731)
Prayers up.
Prayers for your Grandfather and please accept my condolences for you and your entire family.

Prayers who was loved by so many.
I`ll make him my prayer intention for tonight when the baby is up, and the Rosary tomorrow.I am very sorry about your loss.
So sorry to hear this EC. I pray for your FIL’s soul. Amen.
Prayers sent to Mary Queen of Angels and Her Angels+
Praying that the Gates of Heaven open wide for him.
in my prayers....
but you know, being “devout” is not the same thing as being holy...or even the same thing as being close to God.
We visit them every summer for a couple of weeks.
My wife, mother in law and whichever of the kids/grandkids were with us would go to Mass, Father in law and I would go for an icecream and watch the evening promenade (It is a tradition in small Italian towns).
Getting him inside the church usually took a crowbar, a wedding or a coffin!

Condolences to you and your family on your loss. May he rest in peace.

yeah. A lot of men grow up thinking church is for women.
But often their lives serve God, and they know and acknowledge him on a non verbal level...
Condolences.
Thanks very much for telling me. I will say this again. God bless him and hold him dear. You and your family have my prayers and I prayed for his sweet soul.
God bless and keep you, dear friend.
(Keep the Faith, my friends! We are the saviors of the Republic! Now and Forever!)
LonePalm, le Républicain du verre cassé (The Broken Glass Republican)
No one would do it on their own, they are under the authority that tells them to do it. I remember it at the time.
I was thinking of you earlier knowing that awful gut feeling realizing they are gone. It’s still all so new. Sad time for you/your wife and family.
You have my prayers.
