Rev. Jesse Jackson speaks at Miami-Dade church about importance of voting

The Rev. Jesse Jackson preached Sunday afternoon in Miami-Dade County about the importance of teaching young people the importance of voting, the continued battle against racism and the controversial shooting of Trayvon Martin.

Inside the 93rd Street Community Baptist Church in West Little River, to about 200 people in the pews, the civil rights leader opened his remarks with, “Long live the spirit of Trayvon Martin.”

It was a bit late in the afternoon for a Sunday service, but that didn’t stop the congregants from singing and praising the Lord.

Most came dressed in their Sunday best. It wasn’t hot, but fans were passed out to them, bearing bright red words that declared, “Be a responsible voter!”

Jackson, 70, spoke of key points in black history. He pointed out that Sunday was the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots — days of violence that followed the acquittal of four Los Angeles police officers involved in the beating of Rodney King.

King was black. The police officers and the jury that acquitted them were not.

Now, Jackson pointed out, the country grapples with another question: What happened in the shooting death of Trayvon? The Miami Gardens 17-year-old was fatally shot Feb. 26 in Sanford, near Orlando, by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer. Trayvon was unarmed.

Police initially did not arrest Zimmerman, citing Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law. As outrage across the country grew, Gov. Rick Scott appointed a special prosecutor, who charged Zimmerman with second-degree murder.

Jackson linked the issue of Trayvon’s death to his main mission in Miami: teaching young people the importance of their vote. He said he wanted young people upset about Trayvon’s death to know that it helps to be a registered voter to sit on a jury...

“Jackson, 70, spoke of key points in black history.”

When was the last time the ‘reverend’ spoke of key points in the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ? How about the Grace of God; forgiveness?

What's that? Not since a few days before Neil Armstrong landed on the moon? Yeah, that sounds about right...

All I can say is this Trayvon Martin case is doing wonders for the Latino vote. Keep it up Jesse, that’s right...Latinos are racists, are like the KKK, like to walk up and shoot black kids for no reason, oh yes and and some are white. And let’s combine that with saying latinos want illegals to come into this country. Yes, they are very eager to compete with them for jobs.

This message has been brought to you by the Democrat party: The party that votes itself out of office.

It was possibly the UGLIEST point in black history. Those racists in Los Angeles pulled persons out of their vehicles and did massive acts of violence against unarmed innocents.

And it wasn't just black on white violence. It was black on hispanic and black on asian too.

What a rotten antiChrist Mr. Jackass is.

It helps to be a LEGAL CITIZEN to sit on a jury.

IF you have a preformed opinion on a case, you WON"T be seated on the jury unless you lie in court.

I read your post and wondered why I am not hearing about the Latino community being upset with the race-baiting of Sharpton and Jackson.

I understand what you are saying, that they SHOULD be upset, but I am not seeing it.

They seem very quiet, and uncaring.Perhaps I am just not seeing it and it does exist.

Well they aren’t out protesting and making a big stink about it (although I wish they would) but the ones I talk to here in New York city absolutely hate the guts of the likes of Sharpton and the rest of these libs. My theory is they are just too busy working to organize protests and such, unlike people like the OWS crowd and other libs who either live off trust funds, that slimebag George Soros or the government and have huge amounts of free time.
