for a Buddhist there is no harm in that — just as for a Hindu. A Hindu has a plethora of gods, so adding one more is no big deal. Buddhism ranges from athiesm (Theravada in Sri Lanka) to Tibetan Buddhism which has a plethora of gods.
Thank you for that info. I had not really considered his gesture in the context of their pantheism.
