I don't see how relating stories from the Bible isn't teaching Christianity. It is true that it isn't an in depth study of the Bible, but haven't parents always used stories from the Bible to teach Christian behavior?
Personally, I think the stories are pretty funny and entertaining, even for adults. I love the Pirates That Don't Do Anything.

VT is nothing more than safe, wholesome entertainment for kids who
should be getting their Christian formation from their parents and the Church. If the parents and the church both fail the child it is foolishness to blame the color TV.
As an aside, every bit of Christian media does not have to be an evangelism tool. The sheep need food, too, and some things are just for fun. Having a little right instuction tossed in is a bonus, not a failing.

Moralism is when one says, “Hey kids, be more kind.”
Christianity is when one says, “Forgive me Lord and help me to be more kind.”
It's very difficult for us to think in the latter terms even for those of us who are saved. We are sinful creatures who tend to focus on trying to cleanse the external rather than cleaning up the internal.
